UEFA could shorten Champions League and Europa League

The past month of March, the coronavirus turned into world-wide pandemia and forced to all the official competitions of football to detain to avoid the propagation. Since, they have happened two months without parties, with the footballers training in solitary in his respective domiciles with the aim of not losing the form in case it gave the resumption of the sport if the sanitary crisis improved.

Another distinct case is the one of the Champions and the Europe League, two championships that the UEFA has in mind that restart in summer and that finish the next month of August as very late.

We are speaking of two tournaments that, as very late, are used to to finish usually to finals of May or principles of June, by what the demora will be of two months. Thus, according to the informations published by the 'Times', the UEFA foresees that they can have substantial changes so much in the calendar of the Champions and the Europe League​ as in his respective formats.

The UEFA already announced that, in front of this intention to finish the competitions in August, the start of the new editions would postpone to 20 October, pertaining to the next season. The case is that, to this demora of face to the next course, it is necessary to add that it also is foreseen for mediated of June (will begin on 12 June and will finish on 12 July) the dispute of the Eurocopa, that finally will be in 2021.

Possible solutions

Given the circumstances, foresees unavoidable that there are changes of format and everything aims that these will give in the previous rounds, that go to reduce. The UEFA contemplates that the eliminatory previous are to only party and in a neutral field, although also it would be posing that only it play the last round -of champions of league with greater coefficient- compensating economically to the rest of teams excluded.

It is necessary to remember that, of the 32 teams selected for the phase of groups, 24 have fixed square and only eight access by means of these previous rounds. In this tessitura, would not be difficult to organise a calendar so that they decided these remaining teams. The problem is bigger in the Europe League, since only 17 teams remain classified directly, by what there would be a lot of more previous.
