The FC Barcelona board is looking for the ideal '9' to succeed Robert Lewandowski. Joan Laporta and Deco's preferred options are Erling Haaland and Viktor Gyökeres, respectively

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Erling Haaland and Viktor Gyökeres are shaping up to be the most lethal scorers in European football for the future. The Swede has exploded this season with numbers even surpassing the 'killer' from Manchester City (25 goals in 23 matches, 7 more than the 'Cyborg' in 22 appearances), although age and experience still tip the balance against the Sporting CP striker.

THE POLL Who should be Lewandowski's successor at Barça?

Beyond the statistics, the FC Barcelona board sees the signing of either player as a strategic operation. It will be the largest outlay for a player in a long time, in addition to taking on a very high contract for no less than five years. The club's goal is to sign Robert Lewandowski's successor and, furthermore, make a statement with who will be the first major 'crack' to excite the fans of the new Spotify Camp Nou.

Haaland, Joan Laporta's unattainable dream

For Joan Laporta, the Norwegian remains almost an obsession for the future. The president knows that the '9' will have a clause that allows him to leave Manchester City for a reasonable price (less than €200M) in 2026, whether to Barça or Real Madrid. For the club, the operation is practically impossible for the summer of 2025, but a year later, with the Spotify Camp Nou fully renovated, the situation will be much more favorable to pursue what could be the signing of the decade for the culés.

Gyökeres, an option that could be much more profitable

The Swede, for his part, is gaining traction as Deco's fixed bet. Initially, Sporting CP expects to close a record sale, exceeding 100 'kilos' for the Stockholm native, but the azulgrana sporting director hopes to negotiate a transfer in the range of €70-80M. At least that’s how they see it in Portugal, where rumors about his departure from the José Alvalade stadium have notably increased since Rúben Amorim's move to Manchester United.
