Spain wins again, the Spanish national team dominates with a 5-0 victory over South Korea
Spain breaks its winless streak and achieves a 5-0 victory (the "manita") against South Korea in the last home friendly of the year, in Cartagena
After a long wait of nearly four months without victories, Spain managed to get back on track in their last home game of the year, in Cartagena, where the women's national team thrashed South Korea 5-0. The end of a streak of four consecutive draws.
It took less than three minutes to open the scoring. Claudia Pina, who returned to the squad after two years of absence, was the one to score the first goal. The play started with a recovery in midfield, and the Catalan forward, with great determination, headed the ball into the back of the net to celebrate her first goal with the La Roja jersey.
Half an hour into the match, Patri Guijarro, showing her usual fighting spirit in the midfield, regained possession and assisted Amaiur Sarriegi, who increased the lead with a well-taken shot. Before the break, Aitana Bonmatí joined the party with the third goal, closing the first half.
The Cartagonova stadium witnessed a second half dominated by the world champions. A few minutes after the game resumed, Vicky López, the young talent who recently won the Golden Girl as the best U-21 player in Europe, scored her first goal from a corner. The FC Barcelona player wasn’t satisfied with that and, in added time, scored the fifth and final goal of the match.
In addition to the goal-scoring spectacle, the match also served to see some players make their debut with the national team. Adriana Nanclares, who was in goal, made an outstanding debut with barely any work to do, as the South Korean players never managed to get close to her goal, not even with a shot on target. In the second half, Maca Portales, Cristina Martín-Prieto, and Maite Zubieta also made their debuts, enjoying their first minutes with the national team.
The head coach expressed after the match: "We must respect these 24 players because they deserve to be here."
This match against South Korea was the last home game of 2024. Montse Tomé’s team still has one last friendly to close out the year, which will be against France on December 3rd at the Allianz Rivera in Nice.
