Barça will not be able to count on Pedri González for matchday 11 of LaLiga 25/26, against Elche. The midfielder was sent off in the Clásico for a double yellow card and will be out due to suspension

Pedri González will join the list of absentees for FC Barcelona in matchday 11 of LaLiga 25/26. The 22-year-old midfielder will not be available against Elche due to suspension, after receiving two yellow cards in the Clásico against Real Madrid (2-1) by referee César Soto Grado.

The player from Tegueste received his first warning in the 42nd minute, after stopping a very dangerous counterattack from Madrid with a grab on Vinicius Jr. The ‘8’ of the Azulgrana held the rival’s jersey to stop his run, for which it was an undisputed yellow card.

Near the end, in the ninth minute of added time, Pedri wanted to lead Barça’s last attack in the match, but his control was too long. In his eagerness to regain possession, he slid in for the ball, but ended up knocking down Aurélien Tchouaméni. The tackle was clear and the second yellow card, therefore, inevitable.

First expulsion for Pedri in his professional career

For the Tenerife native, the Clásico of J10 of LaLiga was his first expulsion in professional football, since with Barça he was barely cautioned on 10 occasions during the 214 official matches he had played with the club.

In his 215th appearance wearing the Barça jersey, he received two yellow cards and, therefore, a red card that should only be punished with a one-match suspension. In other words, the midfielder would be available again for the visit to Celta in Matchday 12.

Pedri also has 38 international caps with Spain, without any blemishes on his disciplinary record. The ‘8’, although he was the protagonist of the action that unleashed a monumental scuffle between both teams, remained on the sidelines of the rain of insults and shoves that extended for several minutes, even after the end of added time.

Flick Will Finally Give Pedri a Rest in 25/26

The ‘good’ news of Pedri’s expulsion against Real Madrid has to do with the fact that the 22-year-old will finally enjoy a day of rest with Barcelona this season. The ‘8’ has been a starter in the 13 matches played by the Barça team, completing the 90 minutes in 8 opportunities.

Only against Girona (63′), the midfielder was replaced before the 75th minute so far this season. Hansi Flick has done everything possible to rotate in all positions, but today the player from Tegueste is the only player in the squad without a natural replacement.

With Gavi injured, it has been much more difficult for the coach to give rest to the cornerstone of his scheme. However, Pedri has shown signs of exhaustion in the last few matches, being the player with the most minutes played (1,099′).

Barça, luckily, will have six days of rest before hosting Elche, a week that, with luck, will allow the coaching staff to recover some of the injured players, such as Robert Lewandowski and, perhaps, Joan García and Dani Olmo.
