The FC Barcelona has had a rather cautious transfer market compared to its two major rivals in LaLiga, Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid. These teams have made notable acquisitions such as Kylian Mbappé and Endrick (Real Madrid) or Julián Álvarez and Alexander Sorloth (Atlético). But what is the reason for this? Clearly, the answer does not go beyond the fact that the Barcelona team, due to its complicated economic situation, has had to focus its efforts primarily on player departures.
In this regard, the Catalan club has shown greater cunning than its competitors, letting go of a total of nine assets this summer, several of them through sales like Mika Faye (€10.3 million to Rennes), Julián Araújo (€10 million to Bournemouth), Chadi Riad (€9 million, three from his sale to Betis plus another six from 50% of the capital gain from his transfer to Crystal Palace), Marc Guiu (€6 million to Chelsea FC); others through loans like Vitor Roque (Betis), Clément Lenglet (Atlético Madrid), and Oriol Romeu (Girona); as well as some released players like İlkay Gündoğan and Sergiño Dest. These moves have allowed the club to generate income and lighten the wage burden, one of the team’s main current disadvantages.
Having carried out these operations, although an additional departure cannot be ruled out, Barcelona apparently seeks to strengthen its squad in the transfer market, having already added Pau Víctor (€2.7 million) and Dani Olmo (€55 million). However, it is worth noting that the registration of the latter has not yet been completed, although it is expected to be officialized for the match against Rayo Vallecano on Tuesday, August 27, which would be a significant reinforcement for the attack under the direction of Hansi Flick, who has yet to see his star addition in action after two LaLiga matchdays.
Now, as mentioned on Carrusel Deportivo by journalist Sique Rodríguez, once the registration of the Terrassa native is secured, the possibility of more additions in key areas such as the left wing or right-back is not ruled out at all. Two names are on the table: “They believe it is possible to strengthen the squad. Federico Chiesa is one of the options being considered because he is liked for both his quality and affordable price. And then at right-back a player like Marc Pubill would be added, gold medalist at the Olympic Games with the Spanish national team.
FC Barcelona is firmly convinced that it can conclude this transfer market with two important moves to complete the squad for the 2024/25 season. What are these movements?
