Lamine Yamal is the second youngest player to score a goal in a knockout match of the Champions League. The winger is behind another Bar\u00e7a academy product, Bojan Krkic.<\/h2> \r\n

Lamine Yamal<\/strong> was one of the main protagonists, if not the main one, of FC Barcelona<\/strong>‘s victory against Benfica<\/strong> (3-1) to secure a ticket to the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The star from Matar\u00f3 assisted Raphinha in the goal that opened the scoring, but also scored a stunning goal to remember<\/a> to give the Catalans the lead after Otamendi had temporarily equalized the score.<\/p>

With this goal, the ’19’ blaugrana broke a couple of precocity records<\/a>. The forward became the youngest player with a goal and an assist in a match of the top club competition in Europe. At 17 years and 241 days, the Catalan winger surpassed Breel Embolo<\/strong>, who had done the same with Basel against Ludogorets (4-0).<\/p>

To top it off, Lamine is now the second youngest player to celebrate a goal in a knockout match of the Champions League, only behind fellow La Masia product Bojan Krkic, who at 17 years and 217 days scored the winning goal for Bar\u00e7a against Schalke 04 in the first leg of the quarter-finals of that edition of the tournament.<\/p>

With his goal against Benfica<\/strong>, Yamal<\/strong> surpassed Jude Bellingham<\/strong> and Jamal Musiala<\/strong> in the ranking of the youngest goalscorers in the Champions League knockout phase. The first goal of the Englishman from Real Madrid in the competition, with Dortmund against Manchester City in the quarter-finals, made him the second youngest goalscorer in the knockout phase of the competition and came shortly after the German scored with Bayern Munich against Lazio in the round of 16. Now, both have been surpassed by Bar\u00e7a’s ’19’.<\/p>

    Previously, Lamine<\/strong> had also established himself as the second youngest player to score a goal in the championship, scoring in the cul\u00e9s’ defeat in Monaco on the opening day of the current edition. The record, however, belongs to Ansu Fati<\/strong>, who was only 17 years and 40 days old when he scored against Inter in the sixth matchday of the 2019\/20 group stage.<\/p>
