FC Barcelona debuts this Thursday in the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 visiting Newcastle. Hansi Flick’s team arrives at the match with the hope of starting the road to the club’s main objective this season and with the possibility of finally debuting one of their new alternative jerseys.

Barça will take to the field at St. James Park (9:00 PM CEST) wearing their orange kit, which uses the retro concept of Nike’s ‘Total 90’ line as its base design. Due to restrictions from LaLiga and its new ‘Kit selector’, the Azulgrana team has only been able to debut their home jersey in the first four matchdays of the tournament.

Barça will play in orange in the Champions League for the first time since 2013

Against Mallorca (0-3) and Levante (2-3), the ‘Culés’ were forced to use their third jersey from the 24/25 season, in green, since none of their alternative kits for the current season passed the ‘Kit selector’ filter.

Barça played using an orange kit against Levante in April 2015, but this year LaLiga’s regulations are more demanding in this regard. In the tournament, the club will only be able to debut the orange or ochre jersey (from the ‘Black Mamba’ line) next Thursday, the 25th, in the visit to Real Oviedo, for matchday 6.

In the Champions League, Barcelona last played using the color orange in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the 12/13 edition. In the visit to PSG (2-2), the team then led by Tito Vilanova rescued a draw that, thanks to the away goal rule, allowed them to advance to the ‘semis’. Leo Messi and Xavi Hernández (from a penalty) scored the ‘Azulgrana’ goals. The return leg in Catalonia ended 1-1.

For the 14/15 season, although Barça had an orange kit as their second kit, the club chose to exclusively use their fluorescent green jersey for all away matches in the Champions League.

Orange is a color that brings excellent memories for the ‘Culés’ in the tournament, as the first ‘Big Ears’ was won in 1992 using that color. Ronald Koeman scored the winning goal at Wembley (0-1). Subsequently, Barça also used orange in the 2006/07 and 2009/10 Champions Leagues, in both seasons as defending champions.
