A bombshell in Poland! Will Lewandowski return in September?

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Robert Lewandowski has not yet defined his future with the Polish national team. Although the FC Barcelona forward declined to return with his national team after the controversy arising from his absence (by personal decision) from the FIFA date in June, in his country they are confident in the return of the forward in the double round of qualifiers scheduled for September.

According to the local newspaper ‘Przeglad Sportowy Onet’, the president of the Polish federation, Cezary Kulesza, would have opted for the return of Jerzy Brzeczek to the Polish bench.

The 54-year-old coach led Poland between 2018 and 2021 and, although his relationship with Lewandowski had several frictions, the federation is confident in the coach’s ability to convince the goalscorer to return.

Lewandowski, willing to smooth things over with Poland

‘Lewy’ stated that he felt “betrayed” and “hurt” with the former coach Michal Probierz due to the controversy arising from his absence in the matches against Moldova (1-0 victory, friendly) and Finland (2-1 defeat in qualifiers), the latter result being decisive for the dismissal of the Polish coach.

Well, the departure of Probierz would be key for the return of the ‘killer’ to his national team. Robert is the all-time top scorer of Poland with 85 goals in 158 matches and should regain the captaincy if he finally returns for the matches against the Netherlands and Finland, both corresponding to the World Cup qualifier.

The matches scheduled for September 4 and 7 will be played in the first international break of 2025/26. Just after, Barça plans to return to the Spotify Camp Nou in the middle of the month, either for matchday 4 or 5 of LaLiga or for the debut in the UEFA Champions League on September 16, 17 or 18.
