Lamine Yamal is, by far, the player who sells the most shirts at Barça and in LaLiga. What happened to the ‘boom’ of Mbappé?

Calendar of FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona leads the shirt sales market in world football, with revenues of around 179 million euros in 2024 (24 M€ more than Real Madrid) according to the specialized portal ‘FootyHeadlines’. One of those responsible for this event is, without a doubt, Lamine Yamal, a figure in the new Azulgrana sports project.

In this regard, the financier and expert in the Azulgrana economy, Marc Ciria, the 17-year-old winger has far surpassed Kylian Mbappé and Madrid in shirt sales in Spain and his impact on the market can already be compared to what, at the time, Michael Jordan represented as a franchise player for the Chicago Bulls.

“The development of the digital part is the most important part. Taking an icon like Lamine, with the audience he attracts, related to social networks, we must do it now. Will it pay for itself?”, Ciria asked in the program ‘Què t’hi Jugues!’. In that sense, the economist believes that Barça should strengthen digital engagement to get the most benefit from its new star.

Lamine Yamal surpassed Mbappé since last summer

As far as shirts are concerned, the arrival of Mbappé undoubtedly generated a brutal stir among Real Madrid fans last summer. On the day of his presentation, the club sold around 7,000 shirts of the Frenchman, more than double the number sold by Cristiano Ronaldo after his signing in 2009 (around 3,000).

However, Lamine Yamal far surpassed these figures last July, once the official Barça shirt for the 24/25 season went on sale. Negotiations with Nike for the signing of a new contract delayed the release of the Azulgrana clothing to the market by about a month, but this ended up being beneficial for the club.

And it is that, beyond the juicy contract that was signed with the American multinational, the consecration of the Mataró native with Spain in the European Championship turned him into a world star. An aspect that, finally, helped Barça to obtain a better contract for its shirt.
