Wojciech Szczesny could return to the Polish national team in September. The latest reports indicate the desire of the new Polish coach, Jan Urban, to travel to Barcelona to try to convince the 35-year-old goalkeeper<\/strong> to return to an international call-up, something he did for the last time in June 2024.<\/p>

‘Tek’ announced his professional retirement after the elimination in the group stage (the team only drew one match against France), but returned to action last October with FC Barcelona. In total, he played 30 matches with the ‘Cul\u00e9s’ in the 24\/25 season<\/strong>, with 14 clean sheets and 36 goals conceded.<\/p>

This performance earned him a renewal for two more seasons with Bar\u00e7a and, therefore, the Polish national team wants to have his services again. Szczesny has been undisputed in the national team from 2017 to 2024<\/strong> and has good chances of regaining the starting position with Jan Urban on the bench.<\/p>

Poland wants to recover Szczesny and Lewandowski in September<\/h2>

The 63-year-old coach also hopes to smooth things over with Robert Lewandowski, who also announced his international retirement<\/a> in June after an unexpected controversy with coach Michal Probierz.<\/p>

The coach did not like the absence of ‘Lewy’ in the FIFA date and, although the ‘9’ claimed to need physical rest after a very demanding season with Bar\u00e7a, the coaching staff and a sector of the press criticized him harshly. <\/p>

However, Urban and the federation are confident that the 37-year-old striker will return<\/a> to try to help Poland qualify for their third consecutive World Cup, something they only achieved once in their history (they qualified four times in a row between 1974 and 1986).<\/p>

For the moment, ‘Tek’ has accumulated 84 official matches with the Polish national team<\/strong>. The goalkeeper was called up for the European Championships in 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024, although he was only a starter in the last two editions, being eliminated in both occasions in the group stage.<\/p>

For his part, in the World Cup, he participated in Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022<\/strong>. In this last tournament he advanced to the round of 16, conceding 5 goals in 4 matches. Poland will play the qualifying matches against the Netherlands and Finland in September.<\/p>

For the moment, Jan Urban’s team has 6 points out of a possible 9 and is in third place in group G, behind Finland (7) and the Netherlands (6, with a better goal difference). In the last matches, Lukasz Skorupski (Bologna)<\/strong> was the starting goalkeeper for the Poles. Will the coach be able to convince Szczesny to return?<\/p>
