Strike at Mediapro: Are the key matches of LaLiga 2024/25 in danger?

Important news has recently been announced regarding the television broadcast of the last matchdays of LaLiga EA Sports 2024/25. The CGT union (General Confederation of Labor) has announced its intention to call a strike at Mediapro, the current television operator of LaLiga, during the final three dates of the championship.

Why is the strike being called at Mediapro?

According to the CGT, the call responds to the lack of labor guarantees after the change of television operator for the next season. “Right now, the 800 jobs needed to broadcast LaLiga next season are not guaranteed,” the statement said.

It should be remembered that LaLiga recently decided to change operators, leaving behind its relationship with Mediapro – with whom it had worked for years – to sign a new agreement with the telecommunications company Host Broadcast Services (HBS) for the next five seasons. Telefónica will act as an intermediate operator in the production of the First and Second Division matches.

Union complaint: abandonment and job insecurity

The CGT denounces that, a few days before the end of the 2024/25 season, HBS has not taken measures to subrogate the current payroll: “HBS has not lifted a finger to subrogate the staff, abandoning 800 workers and their families.”

In turn, the union exposes the complicated situation of the sector, stressing that “it is a sector that is already very precarious. Currently, there are camera operators charging exactly the same as 20 years ago.”

Demands of the CGT union

Among the main demands raised by the trade union movement, the following stand out:
