Barça is one win away from winning LaLiga, but they can celebrate even before their next match if Madrid stumbles against Mallorca

Calendar of FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona’s victory against Real Madrid in the Clásico (4-3) leaves Hansi Flick’s team just one win away from lifting their 28th LaLiga title. With only three matchdays to go, the ‘merengues’ are 7 points behind.

In that sense, matchday 36 can seal the title for the Blaugrana team, even before the Espanyol-Barça match, on Thursday in Cornellà. Although the Barça team depends on themselves to be champions, one win away (they will have a 7-point advantage with only 6 to play for), they could arrive with the title in their hands at the Catalan derby.

And, if Madrid does not defeat Mallorca on Wednesday at the Santiago Bernabéu, Barça will be able to celebrate regardless of what happens in the remaining three matchdays. The reason is very simple.

Beyond the 7-point advantage and the 9 at stake, Flick’s team has an additional advantage thanks to the overwhelming difference in the head-to-head record.

The global score in the Liga Clásicos ended 8-3 in favor of the Catalans, who also have a comfortable advantage in goal difference (+59 and +35).

If Madrid, for example, draws against Mallorca on Wednesday, they will be 6 points behind Barcelona. Even if the Catalans lose their remaining three matches, the Whites, in the best of cases, would equal the Blaugrana’s line (82 points).

However, according to LaLiga’s tiebreaker criteria, Barça already has an insurmountable advantage for the ‘merengues’ in case of finishing with the same points.

In the first round, Barcelona thrashed Madrid at the Bernabéu (0-4). With the victory in Montjuïc (4-3), the Culés completed a historic clean sweep in the same season, with four victories and a global score of 16-4 which, in addition, will allow Flick’s team to keep the three titles at stake.

🏆Barça will be Liga champion on matchday 36 if…

  1. ✅ Real Madrid draws or loses on Wednesday against Mallorca.

  2. ✅ Defeats Espanyol in Cornellà (even if Madrid adds the 3 points against Mallorca).

🔝Barça crushes Real Madrid in the head-to-head and leaves them without titles in 24/25

And, thanks to the victories in Liga, Copa del Rey (3-2) and Spanish Super Cup (2-5), Barça is about to win the three domestic titles, while Madrid will complete its first ‘nothing-plete’ since 2021.

The Whites aspired to win everything after the signing of Kylian Mbappé, but they completed a disastrous season as a result of poor sports planning, multiple injuries in defense and the lack of signings in the last two markets.

Barça, on the other hand, closes a great season in a year that many assumed would be one of transition. The team came close to the treble, being 2 minutes away from the Champions League final and, with a young squad and an extraordinary job by the coaching staff, managed to crush the ‘merengues’ in the head-to-head.

Hence, the balance of 24/25 is very positive for the Culés and absolutely worrying for the Whites. The arrival of Xabi Alonso supposes the beginning of a cycle that, in addition, will have to go hand in hand with a deep renovation of the squad to try to compete head-to-head with a Barcelona clearly superior this season on the field.
