The last The Best award gala was held virtually due to health restrictions. However, COVID did not prevent the ceremony from being full of surprises

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The prize The Best FIFA is an individual trophy that the maximum organism of the football decided to create in 2016 to recognise to the best footballers of the world in each season. This year the ceremony had to prepare of virtual form because of the new variants of the COVID and the measures of sanitary security. The gala began of usual way, with images of it sucedido in all the 2021 in the planet football and with a brief speech of Gianni Infantino.

The winner of the prize was again the Polish Robert Lewandowski, the one who with his 69 goals and 11 assistances in 59 parties attained to impose again to Lionel Messi, the one who remained displaced second to so only four points of the ariete of the Bayern Munich. However, the prize is not delivered only to the best player, also exists the The Best for the best guardameta, the one who in this edition was the Senegalese Édouard Mendy of Chelsea.

Also the best goal, the one who carried it to him Erik Lamela with that goal of ‘rabona’ when it still dressed the colours of the Tottenham. Inside the list of the most voted to be able to carry the greater prize, in addition to Robert (48) and Lionel (44), the third place occupied it Mohammed Salah with 39 votes, followed of Karim Benzema with 30 and N´Golo Kanté with 24. It was the first time that Cristiano Ronaldo, the one who already obtained the recognition in 2016 and 2017, did not form part of the podium. In spite of this, finished being mentioned at the end for having turned into the maximum goleador to level of selections.

In this opportunity the votes were composed in four equal parts. One with the votes of the captains of the international selections of the FIFA, another by the trainers of these same combined. Besides, the fans also could vote through the web page of The Best, and finally the media, with a journalist by each country.

Who voted to who?

Although Messi has not carried the prize, what if it is true is that it kept during all the ceremony. The Argentinian star has voted by his mates of team, so much Kylian Mbappé like Neymar Júnior, and like third option went by Karim Benzema, the ‘9’ of the Real Madrid. By his part, the French, that occupied the fourth position in the list, chose to Lewandowski, David Praises and to Jorginho, respectively. To finalise, Cristiano Ronaldo could not be missing. The captain of the selection of Portugal has had it clear and chose to Robert, to Kanté and to Jorginho.
