Barça will keep the option open to sign another striker after the purchase of Nico Williams. Marcus Rashford is a viable option, as long as Manchester United accepts a loan

FC Barcelona is not closing the door to the signing of Marcus Rashford. The Manchester United winger has implied that he will do everything he can to facilitate his arrival at the Blaugrana team, even accepting a considerable reduction in his emoluments for 2025/26.

In that sense, ‘The Sun’ insists that Barça only sees the signing of the 27-year-old winger feasible through a loan. Marcus’ contract ends in 2028 and the club demands at least 40 million pounds (around €48 million) for his transfer.

However, few teams are willing to reach that figure this summer, as Marcus also has a high salary (around 20 ‘kilos’ per year). Barça only sees the loan for one year feasible, without a mandatory purchase option, if the player lowers his fee by at least half, with the ‘culés’ assuming a percentage no greater than 60% of his salary burden.

The imminent arrival of Nico Williams, however, does not close the door to the English winger, although clearly Barça needs to lighten its squad with the departure of several players, starting with Ansu Fati. In addition, the British player is obliged to negotiate with Manchester the terms of his farewell to Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford, warming up with Manchester United

To lower his emoluments, Rashford would have to renew again with United, probably for two or three more years. The operation is complex, as the club needs to get rid of his contract to amortize the arrival of new reinforcements.

Another loan, after playing six months at Aston Villa, would solve the problem halfway for the ‘red devils’, since the Old Trafford team would still have to assume a part of his salary. In addition, although a good season in Catalonia could increase his valuation for the summer of 2026, there is also the risk of going unnoticed with Hansi Flick’s team.

And it is that Rashford, logically, would arrive at Spotify Camp Nou to be a substitute. With Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Nico Williams himself ahead, without forgetting Dani Olmo and Fermín López, the English international would have to fight hard to enjoy quality minutes at the club.

Even so, Marcus insists on joining the Blaugrana team, as he has no lack of talent and quality to fight for a position. However, his role as a replacement at Can Barça also leads the board to consider a fee in the order of 5-6 million euros to fit the British player into their salary cap.
