At this point in the summer transfer market, FC Barcelona gives the impression of constantly monitoring several players to strengthen different positions on the field. Some of these targets, due to the amount of rumors surrounding them, do not surprise anyone. However, there are other cases that, either because of the player in question or the position to reinforce, turn out to be a real surprise to various sectors.
Recently, different sources have spread information suggesting that the Blaugrana team is considering an unexpected option to strengthen the left-back position: Sergio Reguilón, a Real Madrid academy product. After joining Tottenham Hotspur in 2020, the Madrid-born player has faced serious difficulties in maintaining consistency in his performances, leading to loan spells at Atlético Madrid (2022/23), Manchester United (from September 2023 to January 2024), and Brentford (from January to May 2024) during the 2023/24 season.
Now, at this moment, apparently the ‘Spurs’ are looking for a definitive exit for the player in this summer market, considering two key aspects. Firstly, Reguilón does not seem to be in Ange Postecoglou’s sporting plans for the 2024/25 season, as Destiny Udogie is likely to be the starter in that position, with Micky van de Ven as a valuable alternative to strengthen that area of the field.
Secondly, since his contract expires in 2025, this could be the right time to get some return on a player for whom they paid around €30 million when they bought him from Real Madrid. These two aspects are especially relevant to consider it a negotiation that could fit perfectly into the ‘low cost’ category. Also, his proven experience in LaLiga EA Sports (Madrid, Atlético, Sevilla) cannot be overlooked, making him an option that, under the right economic parameters, is not at all unthinkable.
This does not seem to be just a market rumor, as reported by ‘SPORT’, this potential signing has the approval of Hansi Flick. Although not the primary option to reinforce that position, it is recognized that Reguilón, in full form, could be a valuable reinforcement for the left-back position in case a situation arises with Álex Valle, who seems to be the choice to cover the rear of Alejandro Balde.
If the player from Badalona is transferred to another club or if he is considered a more suitable option to reinforce the right-back position, Reguilón could become an interesting alternative as an emergency reinforcement. It is worth remembering that although Barcelona has Gerard Martín and Héctor Fort as two ‘made in La Masia’ alternatives to strengthen the left flank, they also lack significant experience in La Liga, unlike perhaps the former Atlético Madrid player.

FC Barcelona apparently have an ace up their sleeve if they end up needing to reinforce the left back with a low-cost option that, by the way, seems to have the approval of Hansi Flick, being an alternative with experience in LaLiga EA Sports At this point in the summer transfer market, FC Barcelona gives […]

[106,449
87
post-91535","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-transfers","category-transfers-2","tag-hansi-flick

Reasons that could support the possible signing of Sergio Reguilón by FC Barcelona
