The UEFA Executive Committee confirmed the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid as the venue for the men's final of the UEFA Champions League 2026/27. As planned, the home of Atlético de Madrid will host, for the second time, the final match of Europe's top club competition, which returns to the Spanish capital for the sixth time.

A LaLiga stadium had not hosted the Champions League final since 2019, when the Metropolitano itself, a couple of years after its inauguration, was chosen as the venue for the match in which Liverpool defeated Tottenham (2-0). That season, FC Barcelona was one step away from reaching the final, after falling in the 'semis' against the 'reds' by 4-3 on aggregate.

New opportunity for Barça to win the Champions League in Madrid

In that sense, Barça once again has the great opportunity to try to win the 'orejona' on Madrid soil. Previously, in 2010, the team led by Pep Guardiola was just one goal away from playing the Champions League final at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The 'culés' failed to defend the title after falling to Inter Milan (3-2 on aggregate). The 'nerazzurri' would end up lifting the trophy after defeating Bayern Munich (2-0). Real Madrid's home also hosted the Champions League final in 1957, 1969 and 1980, with celebrations for AC Milan, Nottingham Forest and the 'merengue' team itself (in 56/57).

This season, the tournament will be defined at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary, on May 30, 2026. This will be the second final with the current format, which includes a league of 36 teams instead of the group stage and a play-off prior to the round of 16.

In 24/25, PSG and Inter defined the champion at the Allianz Arena in Munich, with a 'manita' favorable to those of Luis Enrique (5-0). For Spain, so far this century, there have been three Champions League finals, all played in Madrid (two at the Metropolitano). Camp Nou hosted the match for the last time in 1999 (victory of Manchester United against Bayern by 2-1).

Upcoming UEFA Champions League finals:

  1. 2025/26 season: Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary, on May 30, 2026.
  2. 2026/27 season: Metropolitano de Madrid, Spain on June 5, 2027.

The Womens Champions League 26/27 will be defined in Warsaw

In the case of the Womens Champions League final, UEFA opted for the National Stadium in Warsaw, the official venue of the Polish national team built for the 2021 European Championship.

This venue hosted the Europa League final in 2015 (Sevilla's victory against Dnipro by 3-2) and the 2024 European Super Cup, where Real Madrid prevailed against Atalanta (2-0).

The stadium in the capital of Poland will succeed the Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo, Norway, the venue for the final match of the Womens Champions League in 2026. This year, the final took place at the José Alvalade Stadium in Lisbon, with Arsenal lifting the trophy against Barça Femení (1-0).

Upcoming Womens Champions League finals:

  1. 2025/26 season: Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo, Norway, on May 23, 2026.
  2. 2026/27 season: National Stadium in Warsaw, Poland (date to be confirmed).
