FC Barcelona and Eintracht Frankfurt will face each other this Tuesday, December 9, at 9:00 PM at the Spotify Camp Nou. The Catalans and Germans will face each other for the first time in the UEFA Champions League in the match corresponding to matchday 6 of the league stage, with both teams separated by only 3 points, but with very different realities in the tournament.

Barça arrives with a couple of wins, a draw, and two losses that place them, for now, 18th in the standings, with 7 points and a goal difference of +2. Eintracht, on the other hand, occupies 28th place with 4 units and a goal differential of -7, after accumulating four losses, one win, and one draw so far.

In Europe, the two clubs only faced each other once before Tuesday. It was in the quarterfinals of the 2021/22 Europa League, where Frankfurt won 4-3 on aggregate to advance to the 'semis' and, subsequently, win the title against Scottish side Rangers (1-1, 5-4 p.).

Barça goes for their first win against Eintracht and revenge for 2022

The team led by Xavi Hernández rescued a draw in Germany (1-1) thanks to a goal from Ferran Torres in the second half. However, in the return leg in Catalonia, Eintracht surprised Barça (2-3) with goals from Kostic and Borré before the break. Kostic himself sealed the tie with another strike in the second half

Although Sergio Busquets and Memphis Depay (from the penalty spot) made the scoreline look better in stoppage time, there was a German celebration at the Camp Nou, where more than 30,000 Eintracht fans entered that day, taking advantage of ticket reselling

This Tuesday, Barça will seek to avenge that sad defeat with a thrashing that, in addition, will allow them to get closer to the TOP-8 of the league again. The Catalans, in their last home game in the tournament, crushed Olympiacos (6-1) in the penultimate match of the Blaugrana team at Montjuïc.

The Europa League tie was the only official precedent between Barça and Eintracht. The Catalans have 16 wins in 20 home games in the Champions League against German teams, with the defeat against Bayern Munich (0-3) in October 2022 being the last home loss against rivals from that country

First Champions League match at Camp Nou in 1,140 days

That defeat against Bayern, on October 26, 2022, curiously was the last Champions League match played at Spotify Camp Nou prior to its renovation. Since then, 1,140 days have passed and, now, Hansi Flick's team seeks to recover after the fall against Chelsea (3-0) the previous matchday

During their move to Montjuïc, Barcelona played 14 Champions League home games with a record of 10 wins, 2 draws, and 2 losses. PSG was the only team capable of defeating the Catalans at Lluís Companys, where the Blaugrana team returned to a European semifinal after a six-year absence.

Atalanta and Inter also rescued draws at the Olimpico, a stadium where Barça scored a total of 44 goals, conceding 17 others (+27 difference). The thrashings against Olympiacos (6-1), Royal Antwerp (5-0), and Young Boys (5-0) were the most lopsided from September 2023 to October of this year.
