FC Barcelona must be careful with yellow cards this Tuesday at Stamford Bridge. Up to four players from the Barça squad are at risk of missing the next UEFA Champions League 2025/26 match due to suspension, all of them with options to be starters in matchday 5 against Chelsea.
In the previous match, against Bruges, Barça received 3 yellow cards during their visit to Belgium. According to the tournament regulations, a third yellow card in the league stage results in a suspension. In this regard, four Blaugrana players will have to be careful with the Slovenian Slavko Vincic, the referee appointed by UEFA for the match
The four players at risk of suspension for Barça against Chelsea
On Tuesday, Lamine Yamal, Frenkie de Jong, Fermín López, and Marc Casadó are just one more yellow card away from missing the next league match, against Eintracht at the Spotify Camp Nou, due to suspension.
Of the four, the only doubt in the starting XI is Casadó, who was a substitute last Saturday against Athletic despite De Jong's absence (sent off). Lamine, Fermín, and Frenkie will certainly start, with the player from Huelva going through his best moment of the season (he has scored 5 goals and provided 4 assists in the last 7 matches).
López was cautioned against Newcastle and Bruges, while Yamal also saw yellow cards in Belgium and against PSG. De Jong, for his part, ended up being booked against Newcastle and Paris, as did Casadó.
The other four Barça players who have received yellow cards in the league phase so far are Alejandro Balde, Jules Koundé, Gerard Martín, and Dani Olmo, with one card each and still no risk of suspension.
Cautions, a problem for Barça in the Champions League
In their two previous Champions League encounters this season, Vincic only issued 3 cards: a pair in Atlético-Eintracht (5-1) and another in Real Madrid-Juventus (1-0). Barça, so far, has been shown 12 cards in 4 matches: 4 in Newcastle, 4 against PSG, 1 against Olympiacos, and 3 in Bruges.
For their part, Chelsea have received 8 yellow cards so far in the tournament. Joao Pedro, in fact, was sent off for a second yellow against Benfica (1-0). Andrey Santos will be the only one walking a tightrope against Barça, having received two prior bookings.
