Fermín López could return to the FC Barcelona lineup this Tuesday against Olympiacos at Montjuïc (18:45 CEST). The player from Huelva played the second half against Girona, his first match since September 21 after the injury he suffered against Getafe. In the press conference prior to matchday 3 of the Champions League, '16' was candid about the team's current form and the impact of the injuries.
"We don't come with the sensations we would like, but there is a lot of time and a lot of season left. We want to improve and work. We will return, starting tomorrow, to our best version, for sure," the man from Huelva began by saying.
In that sense, Fermín guarantees he is ready to help the team, whether as a starter or coming off the bench. "I have always felt like an important player, whether I'm a substitute or playing. I have to contribute as much as possible," explained the Spanish international.
Fermín López analyzes the impact of injury-related absences on Barça
So far this season, López has 2 goals in 6 matches (328 minutes), 3 of them as a starter. Despite missing 4 matches and being out for a month due to injury, the 22-year-old player is confident that he has fully recovered from his muscular problems.
"Physically, I feel very good. I am prepared to be a starter or not when the coach needs me," he added. In that sense, the attacking midfielder analyzed the impact of the casualties on the team. Against Olympiacos, Barça will again have 7 players in the infirmary.
"In the end, there have been injuries and we have to play with what we have, there are good players. I can play as a winger if the coach needs me... Flick always asks me to press. What the coach asks is what's best for the team," argued the player from Huelva.
In turn, he added: "The defensive phase is part of the whole team... in the end we know what we have to do and what the coach's plan is. We will press as before, although you can't always play at the same level."
Regarding the absences against Olympiacos, Fermín specifically pointed out the impact of Raphinha's absence. The Brazilian contributed 34 goals and 23 assists in the 23/24 season, and the team feels his absence in attack. "Raphinha is very important and we are looking forward to his return as soon as possible."
"The Champions League is important for Barça and for us. We want to play our best game and we want to get the 3 points."
Praise for Lamine Yamal and feelings about the Clásico
On the other hand, Fermín López also spoke about the importance of having Lamine Yamal from the start. The '10' returned against Girona, providing an assist for the partial 1-0 in the first half.
"I've known him since he was little, and he's the best player in the world. Everyone is talking about him, and they'll try to come after him. But he needs to stay calm. He's mature. We try to help him. If Lamine is doing well, the team will too, for sure."
Regarding the Clásico, the '16' focused his attention on the match against Olympiacos, although he admitted that it is a "very beautiful" week for Barça. The 'culés' are coming off a Champions League defeat against PSG and need to win to get closer to the TOP-8 again.
"It's the Champions League, we're coming off a loss against PSG, and we need to play a good game. Recover our form and win."
