What in the preview was painted to be a match of the era between two of the biggest clubs in the European continent, Manchester City and Juventus, at the Camping World Stadium, ended up being a show... but only for the 'citizens'. Pep Guardiola's team destroyed the 'Vecchia Signora' with a scathing 2-5, in one of the biggest upsets of the 2025 Club World Cup.
- Goals - Manchester City: Jeremy Doku 9', Pierre Kalulu 26' (OG), Erling Haaland 52', Phil Foden 69' and Savinho 75'.
- Goals - Juventus: Teun Koopmainers 11' and Dušan Vlahović 84'
The 'Sky Blues' monologue started from the first half. To the point that, before the first 10 minutes of the game, they were already winning the match after shaking the scoreboard with a remarkable collective play on the edge of the area.
Rayan Aït-Nouri filtered a pass into the area that won the back of the Juventus defense, connecting with Doku, who, in the one-on-one with Pierre Kalulu, got rid of him with a feint and, hand in hand with the goalkeeper, sent the ball into the back of the net with a right-footed shot.
However, the joy was not going to last long for Guardiola's team, because at 11', Igor Tudor's team equalized 1-1 thanks to the collaboration of the Manchester City background. In a bad exit with the ball dominated, Ederson delivered the ball deficiently, and Koopmainers took advantage of it to steal it and, with the Mancunian defense totally out of place, converted with an unstoppable shot for the Brazilian goalkeeper.
An own goal that set the course
Just as fortune smiled momentarily on Juventus, it also quickly tilted to the side of Manchester City. At 25', after a low cross from the right side, Pierre Kalulu, 'bianconeri' defender, without any pressure and in total solitude, failed to clear well and ended up taking a shot directly at the goal.
Di Gregorio, surprised, could not react in time and ended up conceding an own goal that crowned an overwhelming dominance of the 'citizens', who played a fairly comfortable first half against a sterile 'Juve' without answers.
Erling Haaland and his 300th goal in a devastating second half
The second half did not vary too much. Manchester City maintained its overwhelming tone and without hesitation converted three more annotations, although the score could have been even higher.
The third goal came in the 52nd minute, courtesy of Erling Haaland, who with that annotation reached 300 goals in his professional career. This time he did not waste a low center from the right sector, courtesy of Matheus Nunes. Well located in the '9' position, he received totally alone with the goal available and, with a subtle touch of his right leg, shook the nets without opposition.
Foden and Savinho rounded off the rout
At 69', Phil Foden made it 1-4 after another great collective play. As happened to Haaland in his goal, the English right winger was totally alone inside the rival area, with freedom of action and the goalkeeper Di Gregorio already defeated. He did not waste it and took a lethal left-footed shot.
Finally, at 75', Savinho closed the task with an authentic goal. After a scuffle inside the area, the former Girona player capitalized on a loose ball on the edge of the area and, without saying a word, took a 'rocket' with his right leg that left Di Gregorio totally defeated, who could not even make the attempt to launch himself to stop such a shot.
Vlahović made up the score at the close
Juventus had a timid response at 83', when Dušan Vlahović discounted to make it 5-2, minimally making up the result. It was the last emotion of a duel that had a clear dominator from the beginning and that defined the absolute leader of the group, led by Manchester City, followed by the 'Vecchia Signora'.
