FC Barcelona overcame a tie against Racing de Santander (0-2) in the round of 16 of the 2025/26 Copa del Rey thanks to goals from Ferran Torres and Lamine Yamal. Hansi Flick's team took 66 minutes to open the scoring against a combative Cantabrian side that came very close to forcing extra time at El Sardinero.
The 'Shark' returned to Barça's XI after being a substitute in the Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid (3-2). Alongside Lamine and Marcus Rashford, the '7' led the Catalan offensive trident on a cold and rainy night in Cantabria. Despite not having his best night, the player from Foiós appeared at the right moment to open the scoring in the second half.
A screamer from Ferran paved the way for Barça's qualification
In the 66th minute, Ferran took advantage of an excellent through ball from **Fermín López** to outpace the Racing defense and, in a one-on-one with goalkeeper **Ezkieta**, opted to dribble past the '1' to finish into an empty net with a soft right-footed shot. A great goal that broke the deadlock and the torrid home defense, which until then had been unbeatable despite the Barça siege.
Minutes earlier, Manu Herrando had saved a point-blank header from the 'Shark' after a cross from Lamine on the right. Just after his goal, Hansi Flick brought on Robert Lewandowski in his place, in a triple substitution that also saw Raphinha and Pedri enter for Rashford and Dani Olmo, respectively.
In total, Ferran Torres completed just 8 of 11 passes (73%) and a single shot on goal, in addition to one dribble and a couple of defensive actions, along with one recovery. His performance, although discreet, fulfilled the assigned mission: to score against an ultra-defensive opponent
15 goals and counting for Barça's Pichichi
His goal against Racing was his fifteenth of the season for 'El Tiburón', who remains firmly as Barcelona's Pichichi this season with 15 goals. The '7' had also scored against Athletic in the Super Cup semi-final and has scored in all competitions in 25/26, where he also has one assist in 26 games
**Raphinha**, with 11 goals, follows in his footsteps on the list of top Barça scorers, with the podium completed by **Lamine Yamal and Lewandowski**, both with 10 goals. Ferran's personal best in a single season is 19 goals in 24/25, a figure he will almost certainly surpass soon.
