FC Barcelona does not forget its legends, especially when it comes to a name of the stature of Lionel Andrés Messi. The Blaugrana team, taking advantage of the fact that this June 24th commemorates the birth of the Argentine star, has not hesitated to use its various communication channels to congratulate him on his 38th anniversary.
The Catalan team did not miss the opportunity to publish an emotional post in which, along with several images of the '10' during his time as a Barça player, they included the following caption: "You gave us your heart. And you will always have ours. Happy anniversary, Leo Messi".
One more sign that 'La Pulga' —the player with the most goals (672), assists (303) and games played (778) in the history of FC Barcelona— is still very present in the memory of the institution and the Barcelona fans. A farewell that, unfortunately and for reasons that at the time were justified as "due to economic and structural obstacles", left a bitter taste.
The Argentine said goodbye to the Barcelona team after his renewal could not be formalized, thus closing a historic journey with the club from the Ciudad Condal. As a culé, Messi accumulated 35 titles in 17 seasons.
Messi shines in the Club World Cup with Inter Miami
In another vein, but without avoiding the figure of Leo Messi, the Argentine has celebrated his 38th spring in the best possible way, at least from a sporting point of view. And how could he not? His Inter Miami, a team that is currently playing in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, managed to qualify for the round of 16 of the tournament.
They did so in a very demanding Group A, in which they shared a poster with Palmeiras (2-2), the other qualifier; Porto (2-1), a team against which Messi scored a great goal from a free kick; and Al-Ahly (0-0).
An unbeatable streak: Leo has never fallen in the group stage
This pass to the round of 16 has prolonged a truly historic streak. According to the journalist expert in statistics, Alexis Martín Tamayo (MisterChip), the Rosario native has played 33 group stages throughout his career and has passed all 33.
- Champions League: 19 out of 19 passed
- Copa América: 7 out of 7 passed
- World Cup: 5 out of 5 passed
- Club World Cup: 1 out of 1 passed
- Leagues Cup: 1 out of 1 passed
Now, with Inter Miami, the '10' will seek to continue making history in the Club World Cup. However, the next obstacle will be no less: Paris Saint-Germain, the Rosario native's former team. And as if it were a whim of fate, it will be the first time that the Blaugrana legend has crossed paths with one of his former teams in an official match.
Will Messi be able to shine in his reunion with the current Champions League champion? We will have to see what fate has in store, but, in principle, everything points to a duel full of tension and emotions. A clash where, without a doubt, sparks will fly.
