The board of FC Barcelona has resolved a serious headache regarding planning for the rest of the 2024-25 season. According to 'Mundo Deportivo', the City Council will soon approve the azulgrana's request to extend the rental of the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys until May 30. This ensures the club's venue for the final stretch of the season in case Spotify Camp Nou is not ready for the last month of competition.
Initially, the City Council had made it clear to Barça that they could only use the Estadi until the end of April, as a series of previously scheduled events prevented matches from being held in May at Lluís Companys. However, the cancellation of the Rolling Stones' European tour has given the club the opportunity to play their last three home matches in what has been their temporary home since the summer of 2023.
Barça still hopes to finish the season at Camp Nou
Barça will have two league matches ahead (against Real Madrid and Villarreal), as well as potential Champions League semifinals in May at home to close the 2024-25 season. In this sense, the board's goal is to return to Spotify Camp Nou for those matches, with the priority being the Clásico scheduled for Sunday, May 11. In any case, the club has completely ruled out finishing the season with two venues, and when they return to their temple, it will be definitive.
For now, the construction work continues to progress at a good pace with 24-hour shifts seven days a week, and the construction company Limak, in charge of the project, guarantees the board that they will be able to use the Estadi in the first week of May, with a provisional capacity of 65,000 spectators. The processing of licenses is also pending, another issue the club has been working on for months.
