After the Medical Commission of LaLiga validated this Wednesday that Marc-André ter Stegen's absence will be long-term, FC Barcelona will proceed to register the new addition Joan García, just two days before the league debut against RCD Mallorca at Son Moix.

In principle, the German goalkeeper's absence will be at least four months, so the Azulgrana team will be able to use a percentage of his salary to allow the registration of the goalkeeper native to Sallent, according to recent information.

Ter Stegen's injury opens the door for Joan García at Barça

In this context, 'Mats' absence may be 4 months or more, although the club did not specify how long the native of Mönchengladbach will be absent, the following question arises: what percentage of his salary can be used to register García?

In this order of ideas, any management related to the registration of players due to long-term injury must be based on article 107 of the Regulations on League Budgets.

This establishes that, in cases of injuries that last for at least four months and occur outside the transfer windows, clubs can use “eighty percent of the cost charged as the cost of the registerable sports squad derived from the registration of the injured player, not counting the amortization of their federative rights.”

However, this amount is reduced if the club intends to register the replacement before the summer market closes. In that case, the regulation specifies that the available percentage is limited “to 50%”.

Article 107 puts Barça on alert: possible consequences for non-compliance

Barça must fully comply with the provisions of the aforementioned article, since failure to do so could lead to a series of sanctions that would evidently weaken the club's economic structure.

In the event that the Medical Commission's ruling establishes a maximum absence of four months for Marc-André, the Barcelona team could only use 50% of the imputed cost of his contract to register a replacement. This figure would represent approximately 4.8 million euros, taking as a reference the 12 million that the German goalkeeper receives.

However, if Ter Stegen recovers before the expected deadline, the club would face a significant penalty in its squad cost limit, estimated at around 14.4 million euros.

On the other hand, if the use of 80% is authorized, Barça could have approximately €9.6M to register a replacement, under the assumption of a five-month absence, but if he returns before the estimated time, the penalty would amount to 28.8 'kilos'.

It should be remembered that if only 50% is approved, Joan García would be registered until January, so from that moment on, the club would have to maneuver again to register him so that he can play all year. The same scenario that Dani Olmo faced the previous year.
