Just weeks before the start of the new Champions League campaign, FC Barcelona informed UEFA that the Spotify Camp Nou is the chosen ground to host the first team's home matches, and they have not opposed this decision.
It should be noted that the deadline stipulated by the organization to communicate this decision concluded this Thursday, coinciding with the draw for the league phase, which will be played between September 16-18, 2025, and January 28, 2026.
According to the current UEFA regulations, participating clubs are obliged to designate a stadium as their official venue, where they must play the four matches corresponding to this stage of the tournament, in which Barça finished second last season with 19 points.
The Blaugrana entity received a commission sent by the organization last Thursday, August 21, to assess the state of the works at the stadium. A few days before the first home match in the Champions League, they will present themselves again at the venue to inspect the works and confirm whether they can play there or not.
The Montjuïc Olympic Stadium, Barça's plan B
However, the designation of the Camp Nou does not guarantee that the Blaugrana team will play their home matches at this venue, according to 'Marca'.
That is why UEFA also allowed the possibility of including an alternative venue in case the Blaugrana coliseum is not in conditions to host the first home game, scheduled for the second matchday.
Faced with this possible setback, the Catalan club has proposed the Montjuïc Olympic Stadium as 'plan B', thus ensuring a logistical solution in case the main stadium is not ready in time.
Barça has not yet received the First Occupation License for the culé ground, so, for the moment, it cannot play any matches at this venue.
Barça, with the advantage of playing the first Champions League matchday as visitors
In this order of ideas, it is important to highlight that Barcelona was able to reach an agreement with UEFA not to have to debut in the top European football competition at home.
The club conveyed to the organization its intention to play at home from the second match, which will be between September 30 and October 1, to which the organization would have given its approval.
Taking this into account, Barça gains practically two weeks of margin to continue advancing in the works of the Spotify Camp Nou, considering the fact that the competition starts between September 16 and 18, as mentioned above.
