The Argentinian defender of the Barça, Javier Mascherano, has remembered in an interview an entrance that made in Champions League on the then forward of the Arsenal, Nicklas Bendtner, that changed him the life and did him win the definite confidence of Pep Guardiola

In an interview conceded to "The Guardian", Javier Mascherano has explained which was the action that did him win definitively the confidence of Pep Guardiola and win a place in the FC Barcelona during his first season in the team, after having been fichado in summer of 2010. It was in an eliminatory of UEFA Champions League against the Arsenal, when in the final minutes threw in segada to avoid the finish to goal of the forward Nicklas Bendtner and, with this, helped enormously to that the Barça classified for the following round and, consistently, finish winning the European title this same season by fourth time in his history.

"Honestly, after five, six months thought that it was little likely to be here long. My characteristics seemed to go against of all what represented the Barcelona", ensures Mascherano in the interview. Everything changed as a result of his saviour intervention in the injury time against the Arsenal. "This moment marked me. If Bendtner had controlled the balloon and had gone in another direction... I do not know that it had happened. But it happened of the form in which it happened and finish winning the Champions. The things went out well".

From then, Mascherano found a place in the Barça no longer only like spare of Busquets in the defensive pivote, but especially to cover the position of central when it was not Carles Puyol, something that has come doing during the last years converting, surprisingly, in one of the best head offices of the world.

"In fact, I played this party in the centre of the field, went Busquets the one who played of head office. But from then I have played like head office, this entrance changed it everything. I found my position and have been here all these years, trying keep my place and the level", remembers the "Jefecito".
