The El Alcoraz Stadium in Huesca witnessed the consecration of FC Barcelona Women in the Copa de la Reina final. Pere Romeu's team comfortably defeated Atlético de Madrid (2-0) to celebrate their eleventh trophy in the competition and close the season with the double (League and Cup).
The 'culés' started with their gala XI after the unexpected defeat against Arsenal in the Women's Champions League final. Unlike the match played a couple of weeks ago in Lisbon, they did not miss the target against 'Aleti', although the advantage on the scoreboard could have been much wider.
The Dutch Esmee Brugts put Barça ahead in the opening quarter of an hour, but a previous offside by Claudia Pina meant that VAR disallowed the goal. However, the goal would soon come for Pere Romeu's side to go into the break with the lead.
Claudia Pina led Barça's victory with a double
In the 24th minute, Pina culminated a great collective action by Barça with a low shot from the edge of the area. The '9' of Barcelona received a pass from Ewa Pajor and found the necessary time and space to overcome the resistance of Lola Gallardo, who until that moment had not had outstanding interventions.
After 1-0, the Catalans took total control of the match, increasing their dominance near the 'colchonera' area. Pajor and Ona Battle were close to extending the lead, but finally the score remained until the break.
In the second half, Ewa warned again with two headers that went slightly high. Atlético reacted with a goal disallowed to Gio Queiroz for a previous foul on Cata Coll, who had her only outstanding intervention of the match with a great save from a very dangerous shot by Ajibade in the 64th minute.
Pere Romeu moved the bench with the entry of Salma for Graham and, in the 74th minute, came the 'culé' sentence. A cross from Brugts from the side generated a short clearance from Lauren Leal. The ball fell to Claudia Pina, who shot first time with a spectacular scissors kick from the edge of the area, shooting Gallardo.
Eleventh Copa de la Reina for Barça and fifth in six years
In this way, despite completing a match not so showy in the offensive, Barça took a comfortable victory that allows them to celebrate their eleventh Copa de la Reina. The 'culés' are broad dominators of the tournament, with five more trophies than Levante and Espanyol.
In addition, they have won five of the last six editions, with the exception of 2023 where the team was disqualified for improper alignment in the round of 16. Atlético took that edition.
Thanks to her double, Claudia Pina was chosen as MVP of the final. Barça won the Cup with a full record of victories (5) and with a total of 18 goals in favor, conceding only 4 goals.
