Controversy is once again knocking on the door of LaLiga president, Javier Tebas. On this occasion, the 63-year-old Spanish-Costa Rican leader has been the subject of a complaint filed by Miguel Ángel Galán, president of the Association for Transparency and Democracy in Sport. The reason? The alleged commission of five very serious infractions for revealing confidential information of the Catalan team.
Galán presented a 51-page document to the Superior Sports Council, where he explains the reasons why he considers that the leader of the employers' association flagrantly violated "the duty of confidentiality" of the team from the Condal City.
In short, the claim focuses on the following points:
- The statement issued on April 2, 2025 in which LaLiga revealed economic data of FC Barcelona and its alleged return to the situation of non-compliance with the financial fair play.
- The public statements of Javier Tebas asserting that Barça is not in rule 1:1, thus divulging reserved information and internal operations.
- The statement of April 7, 2025 in which Barça accused Javier Tebas of failing to comply with the duty of confidentiality.
- The order, dated April 8, 2025, to withdraw the statement of April 2, which, according to Galán, implies an implicit recognition of said violation.
- The resolution of March 28, 2025 of the CSD, in which the deregistration of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor was annulled, including a document signed by Javier Tebas Medrano that shared economic information of Barcelona with a body not competent to evaluate financial control.
Statements by Miguel Ángel Galán and criticisms of Javier Tebas' management
In statements collected by Diario AS about this complaint, Galán stated: "As president of the Association for Transparency and Democracy in Sport, I saw the need to file a complaint in defense of the collective interests of the members of FC Barcelona and its fans."
He added that, unfortunately, Joan Laporta has not taken effective measures after publicly denouncing the infraction: "Therefore, I feel obliged to denounce the faults committed by the president of LaLiga."
- 📌THE FACT: Miguel Ángel Galán has already promoted previous complaints against figures such as Ángel María Villar, Luis Rubiales and Pedro Rocha.
In turn, Galán also demanded that Tebas end the friction with Barcelona and Real Madrid: "The attitude of the president, who has belittled the two most relevant clubs in the world, must cease. Tebas collaborated with us in the past in lawsuits against Villar and Rubiales, but now he faces a new stage. My complaints in the TAD led to the disqualification of Villar, Rubiales and Rocha. It is imperative that Tebas faces similar consequences."
Other accusations against Tebas: data leak and controversial meeting with Athletic for Nico Williams
A key point of the complaint underlines that there is no record that Barcelona has previously disclosed this data in official statements, media or public channels. Therefore, the dissemination made by the employers' association is considered an unauthorized disclosure of confidential information, which infringes the rules of secrecy in the economic management and auditing of the entity.
Likewise, Galán denounces the meeting that Tebas held with Athletic Club in relation to the Barcelona team's attempt to acquire the services of Nico Williams. In that meeting, held at the headquarters of LaLiga, the accounts of the Azulgrana team would have been audited, something that, according to the accusing party, again fails to comply with the duty of confidentiality.
Consequences for Tebas: from the CSD to the TAD and risk of disqualification
The case has already been elevated to the Superior Sports Council, which must decide whether to transfer it to the Administrative Court of Sport (TAD). If this body determines that an infraction has been committed and Tebas is found guilty, he could face several sanctions, including his disqualification as president of LaLiga.
