Ousmane Dembélé received his first Onze d'Or award this Thursday in Paris. The '10' of Paris Saint-Germain surpassed Lamine Yamal in the vote held by the French magazine 'Onze Mondial' as the best player in the world in the 2024/25 season.
The 28-year-old player received 32.5% of the votes, while the FC Barcelona star was second with 30%. The magazine's readers are responsible for choosing the winner of the award, which has been presented annually since 1976, although there were several years (six) in which there was no vote.
After confirming the triumph, Dembélé expressed his pride in receiving the award, assuring that he always prefers to maintain a low profile off the field. "It is true that in Barcelona I did not speak. It has always been my nature. So I reiterate what I said then: it is better to speak on the field".
Lamine Yamal was left with the 2025 Onze d'Plata
As the second most voted, Lamine Yamal received the Onze d'Plata, and Kylian Mbappé, the Bronze as third in the classification. The Real Madrid forward, however, was very far from the first place, adding just 12.5% of the votes.
Behind 'Kiki' appear Achraf Hakimi (PSG), with 7% of the total voters and Pedri González. The Barcelona midfielder received 5.6%, surpassing his teammate Raphinha (4.7%). The Azulgrana team was the only one with three representatives in the TOP-10.
This is how the voting for the 'Onze Mondial' 2025 awards ended:
- Ousmane Dembélé (PSG) 32.5%
- Lamine Yamal (Barcelona) 30%
- Kylian Mbappé (Real Madrid) 12.5%
- Achraf Hakimi (PSG) 7%
- Pedri González (Barcelona) 5.6%
- Raphinha (Barcelona) 4.7%
- Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) 3.9%
- Nicolò Barella (Inter) 1.2%
- William Saliba (Arsenal) 1.2%
- Lautaro Martínez (Inter) 0.9%
The last winner of the Onze award had been Erling Haaland, in 2023. The Norwegian, winner of the treble that year with Manchester City, won the award with 20.7% of the votes, surpassing Karim Benzema (19.7%) and Kylian Mbappé (18.5%).
Leo Messi, with four awards, is the top winner of the Onze d'Or. 'La Pulga' took first place in 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2018, all of them wearing the Barça shirt. Zinedine Zidane and Michel Platini appear behind the Rosario native with three awards.
Will there be a rematch for Lamine against Dembélé in the Ballon d'Or?
The close vote between Ousmane Dembélé and Lamine Yamal in the Onze award may be repeated in the Ballon d'Or. 'France Football' will present its award on September 22, with a slight advantage for the 'Mosquito' thanks to the Champions League title.
In that sense, the Parisian '10' valued the importance of Luis Enrique and his teammates at PSG to make the definitive leap in his career. "Here they talk about me because I am the attacker, the first to press, but in reality, the whole team contributes to this work. It is something important, especially with our style of play", argued 'Dembouz'.
A week and a half after the Ballon d'Or ceremony, Barça and PSG will face each other in Catalonia for matchday 2 of the Champions League league phase. Ousmane is a confirmed absence for the match, the product of a tear in the hamstrings of his right thigh suffered with France in the match against Ukraine.
