Fermín López is clear that he only wants to play for Barcelona, while the sporting management would not be willing to negotiate his departure unless they pay his release clause (€500 million)
Fermín López has one desire, and that is not to leave FC Barcelona. The El Campillo native is aware of the competition he faces in the Barça midfield, but his desire to succeed at Barça comes first.
In the midfield, he proved to be one of the most dynamic players in the first team. Despite not being an undisputed starter, Fermín's numbers speak for themselves: 8 goals and 10 assists in 2,039 minutes played across 46 matches in the 2024/25 season.
Now, the Huelva native is beginning to define his role for the 2025/26 season, as he is reportedly willing to prove he can be a starter. Manager Hansi Flick considers him an important asset for the Catalan side and, if he had to choose, would not allow him to leave under any circumstances.
To find a place in the team again, following the arrival of Nico Williams, it is likely that the '16' will compete directly with Dani Olmo for a spot as an attacking midfielder/false '9'. His eye for goal allows him to get into the box regularly, although the Terrassa native has a more lethal finish in tight spaces.
In that sense, Fermín knows he has the backing of the German coach, and that he is also under a contract that could keep him at the club until 2029, with a €500 million release clause.
Chelsea tried to sign him in a 'swap deal'
According to recent rumors, Chelsea wanted to sign Fermín López in a 'swap deal' involving French center-forward Christopher Nkunku, but the Barça board reportedly rejected the 'Blues'' request.
Apparently, the azulgranas did not even think twice when they learned of Chelsea's intentions. Furthermore, Nkunku is reportedly not the profile Barça is looking for as a game-changer in the center-forward position.
Barça is clear: Release clause or nothing for Fermín
The interest in the 22-year-old footballer is not ceasing. Both Bayern Munich and Al-Ahli of the Saudi Pro League have reportedly sounded out the player to inquire about his situation, and it is even said that the Saudi team submitted an offer.
In recent hours, Manchester City has also reportedly shown interest in the attacking midfielder. However, Barça's sporting management is also unwilling to make things easy for the teams asking about the player. So much so that the club is reportedly not interested in negotiating Fermín's departure.
The Catalan team's stance on the player is clear: release clause or nothing. Fermín López's talent and determination when he steps onto the pitch have not only won over the fans but have also earned him the respect of his teammates behind the scenes.
Such is the case with Lamine Yamal, Pedri, Alejandro Balde, and Gavi, who have apparently told the club's hierarchy that a player with the qualities of the '16' cannot be allowed to leave.
