Roony Bardghji made his official debut with the Swedish national team on Friday in the defeat in Solna against Switzerland (0-2). The FC Barcelona forward came on for Lucas Bergvall in the 85th minute, with the score still at a minimum in favor of the Swiss and the home side pushing for the equalizing goal.
Granit Xhaka put Switzerland ahead in the 65th minute, scoring a penalty, and in the 90+4' minute, the young Johan Manzambi (19 years old) sealed the match. With the defeat, Sweden sinks to the last place in Group B of the European qualifier with just 1 point out of a possible 9, while the Swiss lead with 9 points.
The Swedes also failed to advance to the Qatar World Cup and are approaching their second consecutive failure in the qualifiers. On Monday, they will be at home again against Kosovo, which is surprisingly second with 4 points.
Koundé had a day of rest with France on Friday
Jules Koundé, meanwhile, remained on the bench in France's thrashing against Azerbaijan (3-0). Didier Deschamps' side took longer than expected to open the scoring at the Parc des Princes. Kylian Mbappé, in the 45+2', broke the deadlock after a good collective action in which he was assisted by Hugo Ekitike.
The Gauls extended their lead in the 69th minute with another goal from Adrien Rabiot, and Florian Thauvin closed the scoring in the 84th. Malo Gusto played the full 90 minutes as a right-back, meaning that Barcelona's '23' had a day off on Friday.
With the victory, France retains the lead in Group D of the European World Cup qualifier with 9 points, 5 more than Ukraine. On Monday, 'Les bleus' visit Iceland, but they probably won't be able to count on Mbappé.
The '10' set off alarms in France and Real Madrid after leaving in the final minutes with an apparent injury to his right ankle. Koundé, however, could return to the starting XI on matchday 4 of the qualifiers.
Dani Rodríguez Saw Action with Spain's U-21 Team
The other Barcelona player who participated on Friday was Dani Rodríguez. The forward from the youth team played 27 minutes with Spain's U-21 team in the rout against Norway (4-1) in a friendly match held in Guadalajara.
Dani came on for Jacobo Ramón in the 63rd minute and came very close to scoring in the final stretch of the match, but he was not assertive in his finishing. Santi Denia's U-21 team will host Finland next Tuesday the 14th in Castellón for the third matchday of the European Championship qualifier for the category.
