FC Barcelona finally managed to win a LaLiga match without conceding goals. On Sunday, Hansi Flick's team defeated Alavés (1-0) with a solitary goal from Robert Lewandowski in the 61st minute, enough to give the Catalans three vital points to fully enter the title race. After Real Madrid's defeat against Espanyol (1-0), the gap between the Catalans and 'merengues' shrinks to four points, with the Madrid derby to be played next matchday at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Interestingly, since the thrashing of Barça in the Clásico held in Chamartín (0-4), Barça had not been able to triumph in the tournament while keeping a clean sheet. It was on Saturday, October 26, with Iñaki Peña in goal, the last time the Catalans had done their defensive duties. On Sunday, Wojciech Szczesny was in charge, for the second consecutive matchday, of keeping the blue and garnet goal invincible in Montjuïc, something unprecedented since the victory against Getafe, also thanks to a goal from 'Lewy' (1-0 on September 25).

Barcelona went 99 days without registering a clean sheet in LaLiga

Well, to enjoy a Barcelona victory without conceding goals in LaLiga again, 99 days and 11 matchdays had to pass. In the meantime, the Catalans accumulated three victories (3-1 against Espanyol, 1-5 against Mallorca, and 7-1 against Valencia), three draws (2-2 against Celta, 2-2 against Betis, and 1-1 against Getafe), and four defeats (1-0 against Real Sociedad, 1-2 against Las Palmas, 0-1 against Leganés, and 1-2 against Atlético de Madrid).

In those 10 matches, Flick's team conceded 14 goals (1.4 per match) and dropped 17 points. Not surprisingly, the team squandered a six-point lead over Real Madrid and ten over Atlético at the beginning of November, although the setbacks of 'merengues' and 'colchoneros' against Leganés (1-0) and Espanyol (1-0) have brought Barça closer to the top again. With 16 matchdays left, LaLiga is completely open, but clearly, the Catalans must improve their defensive work to aspire to the title.
