Matchday 7 of LaLiga EA Sports 2025/26 cost Real Madrid their unbeaten record and, probably, the tournament lead. Xabi Alonso's team received a historic 'little hand' in their visit to Atlético de Madrid (5-2) and will lose the first place on Sunday if FC Barcelona adds the three points in Montjuïc against Real Sociedad (16:15 h).

The 'colchonero' team surpassed the 'Casa Blanca' with authority in the first derby of the season, in a great match that ended with a misleading draw (2-2) in the initial 45 minutes. Robin Le Normand put the locals ahead in the 14th minute with a header, but Madrid came back with goals from Kylian Mbappé and Arda Güler in the 25th and 36th minutes.

However, the white advantage was a mirage that only lasted a little more than ten minutes. In the 45+3', Alexander Sorloth, also with a header, scored the equalizer for an 'Aleti' that, in the second half, crushed a Madrid totally KO in defense and without ideas in the center of the field.

Julián Álvarez and Antoine Griezmann rounded off a historic 'little hand' for Atlético

Julián Álvarez celebrating one of his goals against Real Madrid (5-2).

Julián Álvarez, from the penalty spot, made it 3-2 in the 51st minute, after several minutes of 'colchonero' siege. The Argentine made the penalty effective after a foul by Arda Güler on Nico González sanctioned by the main referee Alberola Rojas. Afterwards, in the 63rd minute, 'La Araña' reached his personal double with a perfect free kick.

The '19' kicked with his right foot well adjusted to the post, surpassing the stretch of Thibaut Courtois. With the 4-2, Atlético retreated into their own half to sustain the advantage. In added time, Antoine Griezmann made it five, defining before the departure of the Belgian a filtered pass from the newly entered Álex Baena.

With the historic 'little hand', the first in 75 years in official matches against Madrid, Atlético climbs to fourth place in the standings with 12 points, waiting for what happens in the rest of the matchday. Real, for now, remains leader with 18 points, but could leave the first place on Sunday.

Barça will regain the lead if they defeat Real Sociedad

And, if Hansi Flick's Barcelona defeats Real Sociedad at Montjuïc, there will be a new leader in LaLiga. The 'culés' have 16 points and boast the best goal difference in the tournament (+15). With the three points against the Donostiarras, the 'culés' would reach 19, one more than Madrid.

In the rest of Matchday 7, there were two draws at the start of the date: 0-0 between Girona and Espanyol in Montilivi and 1-1 between Getafe and Levante in Madrid. Espanyol and Getafe remain in the upper part of the standings, while Levante and Girona continue in the fight for permanence, with the 'albirrojos' still in the basement.

On Saturday, Mallorca defeats Alavés (1-0)  and Villarreal do the same againts Athletic (1-0). On Sunday, before the Barça-Real Sociedad match, Rayo-Sevilla and Elche-Celta are played. Afterwards it will be the turn of Betis-Osasuna. The matchday closes on Monday with Valencia-Oviedo.
