Real Madrid temporarily took the lead in LaLiga EA Sports 2025/26 on matchday 21, now with a 2-point lead over FC Barcelona. On Saturday, Álvaro Arbeloa's team defeated Villarreal (0-2) thanks to a brace from Kylian Mbappé in the second half.

The Frenchman reached 21 goals in 25/26, after scoring in the 47th and 90+3' minutes, the latter capitalizing on his seventh penalty of the season. With the victory, Madrid reaches 51 points and surpasses Barça (49). However, the Catalans will regain the top spot on Sunday if they defeat Oviedo at the Spotify Camp Nou (16:15 CEST). 

Villarreal, for their part, missed a great opportunity to get closer to the 'merengues' and remain fourth with 41 points, the same as Atlético de Madrid, but with one game less. On Sunday, the 'colchoneros' host Mallorca (2:00 PM) looking to secure third place outright.

Osasuna, Valencia and Sevilla also celebrated on Saturday

On Saturday, prior to Real Madrid's victory on Villarreal's ground, Osasuna surprised Rayo in Vallecas (1-3) with an own goal from Jozhua Vertrouwd and another goal from Asier Osambela, both in added time

Valencia also won agonizingly against Espanyol (3-2), thanks to a controversial penalty scored by Largie Ramazani in the 90+4'. Sevilla, for their part, came from behind against Athletic (2-1) with another penalty, in that case scored by Akor Adams.

On Friday, at the start of the matchday, **Levante** defeated **Elche** (3-2) with a goal from Alan Maturro in the 90+6th minute. On Sunday, in addition to Atlético-Mallorca and Barça-Oviedo, Real Sociedad-Celta and Alavés-Betis will also play. The matchday closes on Monday at 9:00 PM with Girona-Getafe
