Possible surprises and tactical variations from Flick against Sevilla
In principle, Hansi Flick plans to make several adjustments to his starting XI from matchday 7 against Real Sociedad (2-1), with Balde returning as left-back instead of Gerard Martín. In addition, Ferran Torres could return as left winger, while Marcus Rashford would move to the right side.
Goalkeeping and defense
- Wojciech Szczesny will be in goal, while Jules Koundé and Alejandro Balde will be the full-backs. In the center of defense, Ronald Araujo should partner with Andreas Christensen, with Pau Cubarsí waiting for his opportunity on the bench alongside Eric García. Jofre Torrents will not be available due to a commitment with the reserve team.
Midfield:
- As a pivot, Frenkie de Jong is set to be Pedri's partner in midfield, while Dani Olmo would remain as the team's attacking midfielder. Marc Casadó and Marc Bernal await their opportunity on the bench, as does Dro Fernández, who started against Real Sociedad.
Forwards:
- In attack, Ferran Torres and Marcus Rashford would complete the Barça attack alongside Robert Lewandowski. The 'Shark' comes from scoring against PSG and, with Lamine Yamal out, has everything to return to the starting XI. Roony Bardghji started against Real Sociedad and could also return to a starting XI with many absentees in attack.
Barça casualties: Which players are out of the match against Sevilla due to injury?
A total of six Barça players will be confirmed absentees due to physical problems. The club lost Lamine Yamal on Friday, due to a relapse of the '10's groin discomfort. The winger, with luck, will be able to return at the end of October for the first Liga Clásico against Real Madrid. In that sense, the Mataró native joins Raphinha as an offensive casualty.
The Brazilian will be out until mid-October due to an injury to the middle third of the biceps femoris muscle in his right thigh. Joan García, meanwhile, underwent surgery to treat an injury to his left meniscus. The player from Sallent will spend between four and six weeks in the infirmary, which could cause him to miss the first Clásico of the season.
The outlook is much more complex for Gavi. The midfielder underwent an arthroscopy and, finally, had to have surgery on the internal meniscus of his right knee. Therefore, the '6' will be out for between four and five months, with the tentative date for his return being February 2026. Another who will be out of action until mid-October is Fermín López.
The player from Huelva suffered a muscular injury in the left iliopsoas in the final moments of Sunday's match against Getafe, and although he returned to training apart from the group on Friday, he will not be available until after the October break. The latest absence is Ter Stegen, who will be out of action, at least, until the end of November or the beginning of December.
Possible lineup of Sevilla against Barcelona
- Likely XI: Vlachodimos; Carmona, Azpilicueta, Salas, Marcao, Suazo; Gudelj, Mendy, Januzaj; Alexis and Adams.
- Bench: Nyland (GK), Alberto F. (GK), Castrín, Cardoso, Martínez, Juanlu, Agoumé, Sow, Ejuke, Bueno, Peque, Oso, Vargas, Romero.
- Injured: Alfon González, Tianguy Nianzou
- Suspended: None.
Matías Almeyda's team from Argentina, on the other hand, recovers Kike Salas in defense and only has the casualties of Alfon González and Tianguy Nianzou due to injury. The Seville team is coming off surprising Rayo in Vallecas (0-1) and remains in the middle of the standings, with 10 points.
In that sense, Sevilla could take to the Sánchez Pizjuán with Vlachodimos in goal and a line of three central defenders made up of Azpilicueta, Salas and Marcao. Carmona and Suazo would be the wing-backs, while Gudelj would return to the center of the field alongside Mendy.
Januzaj should also return as an attacking midfielder, accompanying former Barça player Alexis Sánchez and the team's '9', Nigerian Akor Adams. In their last home game, the Nervionense team lost to Villarreal (1-2).
