FC Barcelona won the Spanish Super Cup title after a great match in Jeddah against Real Madrid (3-2). Two goals from Raphinha and one from Robert Lewandowski gave Hansi Flick's team their fourth title as coach of the Blaugrana, their third against 'Los Blancos' in finals.
Unlike the previous two finals, which were comfortably decided in favor of one team, this year there was much more parity. After a first half with four goals, Barça, which was never behind on the scoreboard, managed to close out the match by drawing on their bench depth and with an immense Joan García in goal
An assist from Olmo to Raphinha settled the final in favor of the Culés, who win their first title of 25/26 and their third consecutive final against Madrid, all with Flick on the bench. Furthermore, the Catalans maintain absolute hegemony in the Super Cup, with 16 titles, three more than the Whites (13).
Barça's Dominance from Minute 1
Hansi Flick opted for Robert Lewandowski as the '9' instead of Ferran Torres, while Lamine Yamal returned to his usual position as right winger. With Fermín López and Raphinha swapping roles on the left and in midfield, Barça created attacking superiority with Koundé and Balde pushing deep down the flanks
**Xabi Alonso**, for his part, had to keep **Gonzalo García** as the '9', while **Kylian Mbappé** was a substitute. The man from Tolosa reorganized his defense by putting **Raúl Asencio at right-back**, while **Aurélien Tchouaméni and Dean Huijsen** were the center-backs
Madrid ceded possession to Barça from the start, betting on the speed of Rodrygo and Vinicius to inflict damage on the counter. The Brazilians orchestrated the 'Merengues'' first clear chance in the 14th minute, with a run by the '7' down the left that ended in a weak shot by Vini into the hands of a well-positioned Joan García.
Rodrygo, more as an inside forward than a winger, played to help Bellingham with marking. Barça took control of midfield thanks to the good work of Pedri and Frenkie in recovery and build-up play, but it wasn't until the 26th minute that the first dangerous opportunity for the Blaugrana in the opponent's area was seen
Raphinha tested Courtois's reflexes with a powerful left-footed shot, which the Belgian repelled with his fists. The '11' and Lamine constantly reached the edge of the box, but the white defensive retreat, with up to eight players near their area, reduced space for the Barça wingers.
Raphinha put Barça ahead in the 36th minute
After the hydration break, Gonzalo and Fermín signaled with two clear chances, one safely neutralized by Joan García and the other culminating in a high shot. Rapha, in the 34th minute, inexplicably missed a one-on-one against Courtois, with a shot wide after a perfect through ball from Lamine.
The Brazilian, however, had immediate revenge. A mistake in Madrid's exit allowed Fermín to recover in midfield and thread a pass into space to Raphinha. **This time, the '11' resolved it impeccably**, beating Tchouaméni in the one-on-one to unleash a cross shot with his left foot, impossible for Courtois.
With Yamal much looser on the right, Barça had Madrid on the ropes in the last ten minutes of the first half. Fermín and Lamine himself tested Courtois with two shots that the Belgian sent to the corner, while Madrid retreated further and further towards their own goal, trying to stem the Barça onslaught.
A very controversial penalty sent the final 2-2 at halftime
Munuera Montero gave three minutes of added time, but it ended up being eight in an absurd stoppage in Jeddah. Vinicius, in the 45+7, made it 1-1 after a great individual play. The '7' left Koundé trailing to enter the box and finish while falling with a cross shot, unstoppable for Joan García.
However, Barça immediately regained the lead. Pedri, with a through ball, left Lewandowski one-on-one and the Pole finished masterfully, chipping the ball over Courtois. Time seemed to be up, but Madrid managed to force a corner conceded by the Andalusian referee despite the Blaugrana's protests.
After Rodrygo's cross from the right, Huijsen headed against the crossbar, after a deflection from Raphinha, but **Gonzalo** latched onto the rebound and, with a shot from the ground, made it 2-2 in the 45+7'. After a crazy stoppage time, there were a draw in the Super Cup final
Much more even second half in Jeddah
Both teams came out for the second half unchanged, and the match turned into a back-and-forth with a similar rhythm to the added time in the first half. Joan García was impeccable as he saved a couple of shots from Vinicius and Rodrygo in the initial quarter of an hour, during which Barça only generated danger with a free kick from Raphinha from the edge of the box that went high.
In the 65th minute, Hansi Flick made two expected substitutions: **Dani Olmo and Ferran Torres for Fermín and Lewandowski**, respectively. Xabi Alonso, for his part, surprised by taking off Valverde (who was booked) for **Arda Güler**, while Kylian Mbappé continued warming up.
Raphinha returned command to Barça
The changes suited Barcelona very well. Olmo's mobility caused problems in the white defense and, in the 70th minute, Lamine came very close to scoring from a low cross by Koundé. The '10's' shot, however, went straight at Courtois, who punched it away
Three minutes later, Raphinha, with a bit of luck, regained the lead for Barça. The Brazilian, despite slipping, shot from the edge of the box at a ball that Olmo and Ferran let go to draw the marking. The shot deflected off Asensio and ended up in a goal, with Courtois completely out of position.
With their backs against the wall, Xabi Alonso had no choice but to bring on Mbappé in place of Gonzalo in the 75th minute to search for an equalizer. Nevertheless, the Blaugrana team maintained control of the midfield, with a Madrid side exhausted and split between the lines.
Barça held onto the lead and reigns again in Arabia
With seven minutes left, Flick brought on Rashford for Raphinha and Gerard Martín for Eric García. In Madrid, David Alaba came on for Huijsen. The Whites ran out of steam and ideas in the final stretch, with Mbappé completely disappearing.
Barcelona managed to hold onto their lead this time, despite Frenkie's expulsion at the end for a mistimed tackle on 'Kiki'. This forced Flick to bring on Ronald Araujo for Lamine in stoppage time to reorganize the midfield. Rashford, in the 90+4', wasted a counter-attack to seal the match
Joan García, in the final moments, made two saves against Carreras and Tchouaméni to prevent a penalty shootout. In this way, the Catalans once again celebrated, deservedly, a title against their eternal rival and begin 2026 in the best possible way, already with a cup in their trophy cabinet and a streak of ten consecutive victories in all competitions.
Madrid, for its part, remains in intensive care, with Xabi Alonso on the verge of dismissal and a squad clearly mismanaged and, probably, assembled, heavily impacted by injuries.
