Fermín López Marín will soon sign a new contract with FC Barcelona. The latest information indicates the 22-year-old player's desire to extend his link with the Blaugrana team until the summer of 2031, two seasons more than his current contract, which he signed in October 2024. At that time, the club set his release clause at 500 million euros.
The native of El Campillo, Huelva, returned to Can Barça in the summer of 2023, after a season on loan at Linares. Although few bet on his staying in the first team, the midfielder managed to convince Xavi Hernández in preseason to give him a chance for 23/24.
In that campaign, he scored 11 goals and provided 1 assist in 43 games. In the following season, despite the signing of Dani Olmo, the Huelva-born player continued to gain importance in the team, becoming a key piece in Hansi Flick's system. In the 25/26 season, Fermín has managed to establish himself as a starter, after a summer where he turned down a millionaire offer from Chelsea.
Barça rewards Fermín's commitment with a new contract
In the 24/25 season, López closed the course with 8 goals and 10 assists in 46 games. In the current season, after only 25 appearances, he has already surpassed these records, with **10 goals and 10 assists**. In this regard, the board considered his renewal a priority and the agreement between the parties has already been reached.
"There are a few things left, but I intend to be at Barça, which is the most important thing for me and the truth is I hope it happens soon. I'm very happy," said the Spanish international in an interview for 'SPORT'.
The latest meetings between Deco and his agent, Xavi Giménez, have been very positive, and journalist Fabrizio Romano assures that the signing of his new contract is imminent. In this regard, 'Mundo Deportivo' states that the agreement could be formally announced this Thursday, after the Champions League match against Copenhagen, where Fermín will likely start.
The official renewal ceremony, however, could be moved to next week at the offices of president Joan Laporta. The player from Huelva will sign until 2031 with a significant salary increase, around double his current wage (approximately 6 million euros gross).
Fermín López's Release Clause Will Remain Prohibitive
Regarding his release clause, Barcelona will likely keep it at 500 million euros, a prohibitive figure to ward off investors from England and the Middle East. After two and a half seasons with the first team, Fermín López has accumulated **113 official matches in which he contributed 29 goals and 21 assists**.
Prior to his loan to **Linares**, the Huelva-born player played a single match with the reserves and another three in the **Youth League**. With his renewal, Barça dismisses rumors related to the interest of Chelsea and other Premier League giants who have offered figures close to 100 'kilos' for his transfer.
"I hope to help the team a lot. **It's not a goal I set for myself** (to improve my offensive records), **but in the position I play, I know I have to score goals and provide assists to help the team.** Hopefully, I can do many more," he emphasized about his role in the squad led by Hansi Flick, who has been one of the main proponents of his renewal.
