Gialuigi Donnarumma wrote a farewell message on his social networks dedicated to the Paris Saint-Germain fans. Although he has a contract with the current European champion until June 2026, the Italian was removed from the team after the Club World Cup and the signing of Lucas Chevalier.
"From the first day I arrived, I gave everything, on and off the field, to earn a place and defend the goal of Paris Saint-Germain. Playing for this club and living in this city has been an immense honor," wrote the 26-year-old goalkeeper.
City awaits Ederson's departure to sign Donnarumma
According to information shared by journalist Fabrizio Romano, 'Gigio' would have already reached a total agreement with Manchester City a couple of weeks ago. PSG, in principle, demanded at least 50 million euros for the transfer of the goalkeeper.
However, the operation aims to close for a lower amount, perhaps in the order of 45 'kilos'. Donnarumma is listed at €40M according to the specialized website 'Transfermarkt', but the team led by Pep Guardiola must still resolve one more folder before closing the signing of the Italian.
And, for the moment, the 'cityzens' have three goalkeepers registered in their squad. James Trafford was a starter in the first two matchdays of the Premier League, against Wolverhampton (victory by 0-4) and Tottenham (defeat by 0-2).
In addition, the experienced Stefan Ortega and Ederson Moraes are available. The latter is the one pointed out to leave and has remained on the sidelines while resolving his departure, probably heading to Galatasaray. The Ottoman team had Ter Stegen and Iñaki Peña in their sights, but they would have finally opted for the Brazilian.
Guardiola wants Donnarumma to solve his defensive problems
For Pep Guardiola, the signing of Gianluigi Donnarumma is key to stop the defensive bleeding in the Mancunian team. The defeat against Tottenham revived the ghosts of 24/25 at the Etihad Stadium and the Catalan coach prioritizes incorporating a goalkeeper with the necessary quality and experience to lead a defense with many problems.
City, in addition to Ederson, also hopes to close the departures of Manuel Akanji and Ílkay Gündogan soon. The former FC Barcelona midfielder is set to sign for Juventus, while the Swiss central defender could also go to Galatasaray.
Will Donnarumma be able to maintain the fantastic level shown with Paris last year in England? The Italian was fundamental in obtaining the treble for Luis Enrique's team, but finally the Asturian coach has opted for Chevalier.
"These are always difficult decisions to make. I have no problem making this decision. But I don't want to express myself publicly about any of the players who are at PSG. I'm not interested," said 'Lucho' about the imminent departure of 'Gigio'. Will this change in their goal be a mistake for PSG?
