The 'soap opera' of Alphonso Davies and Bayern Munich has come to an end. After many months of uncertainty and back and forth, the left-back decided to 'pass' on the interest from clubs like Real Madrid or FC Barcelona to extend his stay at the Allianz Arena. This was reported by the club itself through its official channels, where they revealed that the player renewed his contract until 2030.

In recent weeks, the Munich team accelerated to secure the player's signature on his new commitment and made a significant financial effort. According to German media, the 24-year-old defender will become one of the highest-paid players in the squad, earning around 15 million euros per season plus performance bonuses, in addition to another 15 'kilos' for the extension of his contract.

These figures were not something the big clubs in Spain were willing to meet, which ultimately tipped the balance in favor of the Germans. Similarly, the project being built under Vincent Kompany, where stars like Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala are also close to securing their continuity, was a key factor in the Canadian's decision.

Davies, ecstatic with his renewal

After signing his contract with Bayern, Davies stated that "I am very happy to have extended my contract with this great club.  I joined FC Bayern when I was 18 years old and just wanted to learn as much as possible every day to become one of the best in my position. Now I look forward to spending another five years together.  I have already achieved many things here, but I still have many more to accomplish".

Similarly, Max Eberl, the sporting director of Munich, stated that "we are delighted to move forward into the future with Alphonso Davies.  Phonzy has been playing at FC Bayern since he was 18 years old and has quickly internalized the club. We consider him one of the characters of the new generation of our team who are taking on more responsibilities. He has grown here and will continue to grow with the team".

As things stand, both Barça and Madrid will need to focus on a new target if they want to strengthen the left side of their defenses. While the Catalans are becoming increasingly calm in this position due to the great level of Alejandro Balde and the confidence that Hansi Flick has shown in Gerard Martín, the whites could have a 'big' problem, as neither Mendy nor Fran García provide sufficient guarantees to cover this area of the field.
