The soap operas in the summer market around Jan Virgili are over. FC Barcelona announced this Thursday (August 28) the transfer of the left winger to RCD Mallorca, who had been working for weeks to finalize his incorporation.

The transfer of the player born in Vilassar de Mar will allow the Blaugrana team to receive around 3.5 million euros, in addition to retaining 50% of his sports rights to profit from a future sale by the Balearic team, according to recent reports.

Likewise, Barça kept a repurchase option to recover the forward, in case he has outstanding performances and numbers as a player of the 'vermellón' team, where he will wear the number 29.

Mallorca has already announced the arrival of its new acquisition, who signed a contract for the next five seasons (until 2030). It should be remembered that Jan Virgili traveled to Palma this Wednesday (August 27) to begin preparing and sign a contract with his new club.

Lack of opportunities pushes Jan Virgili out of Barça

In this sense, Jan Virgili's decision to seek new horizons was precipitated after being left out of Hansi Flick's squad for the preseason tour of Japan and South Korea.

Faced with this scenario, the 'vermellón' team was quick to make a move, since from the moment they learned of his situation, they began to show a firm interest in incorporating the footballer, opening the door to a departure that seemed inevitable.

The player had a contract with the Catalan team until June 2027, but he wanted an opportunity in the first team, which was also partly blocked by the arrival of Marcus Rashford.

Likewise, he did not see himself playing in Segunda RFEF with Barça Atlètic, as he considers himself ready for a greater challenge. Something that he will have in the 'mallorquinitas' team.

In addition, the Mallorca strategist, Jagoba Arrasate, apparently contacted the player to convey his confidence and explain the role he will have in his project, something he also did with Pablo Torre.

Jan Virgil says goodbye to Barça with an emotional message

After announcing his departure from Barcelona, the left winger did not want to miss the opportunity to send a nice message of gratitude to the Blaugrana entity.

“A memory that will be etched in my mind for the rest of my life: wearing the Barça shirt, a dream that, even today, I still find hard to believe,” he pointed out in a part of his publication on social networks.

It should be remembered that Jan Virgili landed at Camp Barça in the summer of 2024, coming from Nàstic de Tarragona. The forward was important for Barça Atlètic during the 2024/25 season, where he scored 4 goals and provided 2 assists in 17 matches.

Likewise, he also played with Juvenil A, led at that time by Juliano Belletti, with whom he won LaLiga, Copa del Rey and the UEFA Youth League, scoring 4 goals and assisting on 4 occasions in 10 matches.

In his last match as a player in the lower categories of Barcelona, he had an outstanding performance with Barça sub-20 in the Intercontinental against Flamengo on Brazilian soil, where despite his team losing, he scored a goal and left a brilliant performance. Do you think Jan Virgili will be able to become an undisputed starter for Mallorca?
