FC Barcelona, as recently reported, does not seem to be in the mood to strengthen with a midfielder in this summer market. The 'Azulgrana' team has two main arguments for passing up this option:
- The priority is to strengthen other areas of the field, such as the left wing or the right back.
- They have no fewer than seven midfielders who have the midfield well covered: Pedri González, Frenkie de Jong, Marc Casadó, Gavi, Fermín López and Dani Olmo. This list will be joined next season by Marc Bernal, who is expected to join at the start of the 2025/26 season, once he has recovered from the injury that has kept him out.
From England they insist: Barça are still interested in Thomas Partey
Despite this, sources in England continue to claim that Barcelona are still on the trail of Arsenal pivot, Thomas Partey. The Ghanaian, who at 31 years of age is out of contract with the 'Gunners', could become a market opportunity by arriving as a free agent.
- The Catalan side do not rule out valuing a profile like his: with great physique and a strong defensive and recovery character.
In this regard, newspapers such as 'The Sun' point out that Barcelona have already started talks with the player's entourage to try to close his signing this summer, and that Hansi Flick is a great admirer of the midfielder. However, the same source stresses that the priority of the former Atlético de Madrid player is to stay in London, where he feels comfortable with Mikel Arteta's project.
In turn, Partey has adapted well to life in the British capital. However, it is also clarified that the player would be looking for an agreement that does not involve a considerable salary reduction, which could also represent a major obstacle to his arrival at Barça.
Uncertainty in London: the Ghanaian's future could bring him closer to Barcelona
Likewise, other media such as 'The Telegraph' and 'Sky Sports' agree that FC Barcelona are still interested in incorporating Thomas Partey as a free agent, which would avoid direct negotiations with Arsenal and it would be enough to reach a personal agreement with the player. They also point out that the Catalan club has held talks with the Ghanaian international.
Thomas Partey, while he seems to count for Mikel Arteta, has not progressed in his renewal. If we also consider that the Londoners are working on the incorporation of Real Sociedad midfielder, Martín Zubimendi, it could be inferred that the pivot's options of continuing as a 'Gunner' are, at least, conditioned.
Is it still a valuable opportunity for Barça? We'll have to see. For the moment, we can only wait and see how the market moves.
