The story between Sporting Lisbon and Viktor Gyökeres seems to be coming to an end. The Swedish striker is now closer than ever to becoming the new star signing for Arsenal in the Premier League.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano recently reported that the 'London' team and Gyökeres had reached an agreement on personal terms for him to join the club until 2030.

He also pointed out that the '9' will not return to training with the Portuguese team. Furthermore, Arsenal is doing everything possible to close the deal as quickly as possible. Talks between clubs have already entered their crucial stage.

According to Transfermarkt, Gyökeres has a value of 75 million euros. However, so far there is no indication of what the figure will be for which Sporting will agree to transfer the player.

It should be noted that the Stockholm native has a release clause set at 100 million euros, with a contract in force until 2028. However, various sources pointed out that, in the past, both the player and his agent had reached a verbal agreement with the president of the 'green and white' club, Frederico Varandas, to facilitate a possible exit for a figure close to 70 million euros.

However, Varandas himself publicly denied this version, reaffirming that the only valid price to release the player is the one established in his clause.

Top signing for Arsenal

If the incorporation is completed, Arsenal would be acquiring the services of one of the most lethal center forwards of today. The '9' of 27 years registers numbers that for many could be unattainable.

In this context, Gyökeres arrived at Sporting in the summer of 2023, from Coventry City, in exchange for 20 million euros. From his first season with 'the lions', the player began to score a large number of goals, in addition to providing assists.

Gyökeres, in the last two as a Sporting Lisbon player, scored 97 goals, in addition to providing 28 assists in 102 matches with the 'green and whites'.

Gyökeres interested Barça

The Swede raised interest in the sports management of FC Barcelona, but they chose to concentrate on other movements to prepare the squad of the first team.

However, although Barça has Robert Lewandowski for the demarcation of the '9' and Ferran Torres as a revulsive, the Pole will enter the 2025/26 season as his last course stipulated in his contract. Likewise, the Valencian, until now, nobody could assure him that when Lewy leaves he will be the starter.

In this context, despite the fact that the azulgrana team could have entered the bid for Viktor months ago, now, when it is time to go to the market for a top 9, they will have to explore other options.
