The transfer market concluded without many updates in the first team FC Barcelona. The stagnation of the 'exit operation' prevented the arrival of any reinforcements (Marcus Rashford), although this does not pose a problem for Hansi Flick, who has repeatedly stated that he is more than satisfied with his squad and is confident that his team will fight for all titles until the end.

However, the Barcelona board did receive excellent news in the final stretch of the winter window. Manchester City decided to make a last-minute move for the signing of Nico González, in a transfer from which Barça has greatly benefited.

The arrival of the midfielder at the Etihad Stadium leaves the Catalans with 20% of the profit from the amount paid by the 'skyblues' to Porto plus another 3 million euros previously deposited for the other 20% that belonged to them for the player's rights. In total, the Catalans received an amount of 13.3 'kilos', to which the 8 million paid by the Portuguese for the academy player in the summer of 2023 must be added.

Barça strikes gold in La Masia

This unexpected income from the signing of Nico by City is the result of a strategy by the club's technical secretariat, which for a couple of years has included percentages of future transfers in all sales of players from La Masia. Through this route, the Catalans have generated an amount of around 65 million euros from footballers who, in most cases, had not even debuted in the first team.

The operation of González has left a total of 21.8 million euros, to which 10 'kilos' received from the transfer of Mika Faye to Rennes; 10 from the sale of Julián Araujo to Bournemouth; 9 from the arrival of Chadi Riad to Crystal Palace; 6 from the signing of Marc Guiu by Chelsea; 5 from the departure of Unai Hernández to Al-Ittihad and 3 from the incorporation of Estanis Pedrola to Sampdoria, which could increase if Bologna activates its purchase option at the end of the current loan.

The 65 million euros earned by Barça thanks to La Masia:

  • Nico González (Manchester City): 21.8 million euros
  • Mika Faye (Rennes): 10.3 million euros
  • Julián Araujo (Bournemouth): 10 million euros
  • Chadi Riad (Crystal Palace): 9 million euros
  • Marc Guiu (Chelsea): 6 million euros
  • Unai Hernández (Al-Ittihad): 5 million euros
  • Estanis Pedrola (Sampdoria): 3 million euros
  • TOTAL: 65.1 million euros

Additionally, the Blaugrana have retained a percentage of future sales of players like Mika Mármol, Francisco Trincao, and Óscar Mingueza, who are likely to move during the next summer transfer window and could continue to exploit a formula that is beginning to yield more than positive results for Deco and the board.
