Oriol Romeu's farewell to FC Barcelona could materialize in the coming hours. The player knows that he is not in the plans of coach Hansi Flick, and he is also interested in changing scenery, with just under four days until the closing of the summer market.

The Blaugrana team and the midfielder native to Ulldecona are in the final stretch of a negotiation that aims to conclude with the termination of his contract, which expires in the summer of 2026, according to Mundo Deportivo.

After several days of conversations, both parties have managed to get closer and the final agreement could be made official this Thursday (August 28). The player's departure will allow Barça to free up a salary of 3.5 million euros.

Oriol Romeu's departure, key for pending registrations

In this sense, the termination of Oriol Romeu's contract has become a key piece within the complex registration situation that the Blaugrana team must resolve before the closing of the summer market.

The agreement, which has been forged with willingness by both parties, as mentioned earlier, is essential for the club to register Gerard Martín and Roony Bardghji.

It should be remembered that the recent departure of Iñaki Peña to Elche has cleared the way for the registration of Wojciech Szczesny, but these movements still need to be finalized.

With September 1 as the deadline to register players and the match against Rayo Vallecano just a few days away—scheduled for this Sunday, August 31—, Barça is accelerating in the offices to close an operation that not only frees up salary mass but also unlocks Hansi Flick's sports planning.

What will be Oriol Romeu's next team?

While the pivot, after terminating his contract with Barça, must choose almost immediately which will be his new team. For now, the 33-year-old player has the interest of clubs such as Galatasaray, Girona, Real Oviedo, Real Betis, Sevilla or from the MLS.

The 'gironins' team could acquire his services again, considering the fact that Barça took him from this team in the summer of 2023 for 3.4 million euros, corresponding to his release clause.

In addition, he played in this team last season on loan, participating in 31 matches, translated into 1805 minutes on the field, directed by Míchel.

It should be noted that during Barça's Asian tour, Oriol Romeu remained apart from the group, training alone at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.

The Catalan midfielder, fully aware that he was not in Flick's plans for the new season, chose to stay active while the team traveled through Japan and Korea. Despite his situation, Romeu was present at the official presentation of the squad during the Joan Gamper Trophy.
