FC Barcelona is still unclear about the need to pursue the signing of another center back in the final stretch of the summer transfer window. Iñigo Martínez's departure to Al Nassr leaves the team without one of its key players from last season, with the Basque player being an undisputed starter alongside Pau Cubarsí.

Although the squad has three other defenders to fill the position, the injury history of two of them creates uncertainty for the future. Ronald Araujo missed the entire first half of the 2024/25 season due to physical problems, while Andreas Christensen was only available for the final month of the season. For now, the number four is starting alongside Cubarsí.

After the 1-0 defeat to Como at Gamper Stadium, Hansi Flick commented on the possibility of signing another center back, but the truth is that, for now, the club has other priorities to address and little time to do so. "I'll talk to Deco when he's here and we'll see, but for the moment, I don't think so," said the manager regarding the possibility of adding another center back in the current transfer window.

However, he also considered the possibility of giving more opportunities to other players thanks to Iñigo's absence. In any case, the club's priority is to resolve pending registrations. In the final stretch of the transfer market, depending on fair play and available market options, it will be evaluated whether or not it is worth bringing in another central defender.
