The board of directors of FC Barcelona has Gerard Martín as one of its transferable players. The Azulgrana team could receive around 15 million euros for the 23-year-old defender, although his departure forces the club to sign another left-back this summer. For now, Alejandro Balde is untouchable in Hansi Flick's scheme.
In England, clubs such as Wolverhampton and Bournemouth have inquired about Martín, whose contract with Barça ends in 2029. The '35' went from strength to strength last season, making 42 appearances (20 as a starter), with 1 goal and 6 assists.
However, the board believes that the ideal would be to have a defender capable of competing for the starting position with Balde. Héctor Fort can also cover the left side, but he is also marked to leave this summer.
In that sense, the club's main alternative for the position is Alejandro Grimaldo. The reasons for going after the Bayer Leverkusen defender are his low cost and Azulgrana past. The 29-year-old defender left Barça in 2012 and could return for just 15 million.
In other words, the club would not spend anything, as it would reinvest what it earned from Gerard Martín in a Grimaldo who has 16 goals and 33 assists in 92 games with Leverkusen, being a key player in the team that won the Bundesliga in 2024. However, everything will depend on whether the '35' culé decides or not to accept an offer to try his luck in another team.
