The future of right-back Óscar Mingueza is now up in the air after a series of scenarios that would have changed his route. For its part, FC Barcelona remains attentive to the player's movements, as it owns 50% of the player's rights.
In this sense, according to 'Mundo Deportivo', his departure from RC Celta de Vigo was taken for granted just a few weeks ago. It was expected that the full-back would land in England to join Aston Villa, managed by Unai Emery. However, everything would have changed.
Also, for the moment, according to MD, Celta's offices have not received official proposals for the defender.
However, and against all odds, journalist Óscar Méndez suggests the possibility that the player will end up staying in Vigo, a scenario that until recently was considered little less than unfeasible.
Barça, waiting for Mingueza to resolve his situation
The blaugrana team would be waiting for the player to decide what he will do with his future, since the player's contract with the 'celtista' team expires in the summer of 2026. Those from Balaídos would want to avoid at all costs that the player leaves for free and would be looking for a way to renew him if a concrete proposal does not arrive in this summer market.
In addition, the fact that the full-back leaves at 0 cost would not please Barça either, since thanks to that percentage that remained, they could obtain a good financial 'bite'.
"Right now there are three options on the table. The first is for Mingueza to renew his current contract with Celta. Something that seemed almost impossible in January has been gaining strength over the months," Méndez pointed out.
According to reports, the '3' is the only one who has not reported to Celta's pre-season training sessions, due to the fact that he has a few more days of vacation due to his participation in the final phase of the UEFA Nations League.
Óscar Mingueza and Aston Villa flirted in January
According to rumors, Mingueza was also on the radar of 'the Villains' in the winter market. It was even speculated that the English team would pay the player's termination clause to negotiate without major inconveniences.
In this context, the Catalan '3' is valued by Celta de Vigo at around 20 million euros. Therefore, if his departure had materialized, Barcelona would receive half of the sale, that is, 10 'kilos'.
Mingueza is an indisputable player for the 'celtista' technical director Claudio Giráldez. During the 2024/25 season he played 36 games (2,904'), scoring 4 goals and providing 6 assists.
The summer transfer market is long. It only opened on July 1 and will close on August 30. Any scenario is possible for Mingueza. Both a renewal with Celta and a transfer or a free departure in the summer of 2026 could take place.
The player was also linked with Olympique de Marseille of Ligue 1 and RB Leipzig of the Bundesliga. But the truth is that, at this point, no team seems to be definitively launching into the market for the ex-blaugrana.
