The captain of FC Barcelona Femení, Alexia Putellas, has stated in a press conference during the culés' preseason tour of Mexico that she is not closing the door to new challenges in the future.
Both the 31-year-old player and Claudia Pina were asked about the possibility of their arrival in Liga MX at some point, to which Alexia pointed out:
"You all know what my short-term present is, what my idea is: to fight with everything with this club, but as Pina has said and has been seen many times, in football you never know and we'll see in the future."
Alexia Putellas: when does her contract with Barça end?
In that sense, the veteran player looks favorably on the women's league project in Mexico and alluded to what has been done in recent years:
"As you know, many Spanish players and coaches have come to the Mexican league. It is a symptom that they are investing, that it has been growing for many years and they believe that it can become one of the best leagues in the world.”
Barça Femení will play two friendly matches on Mexican soil, the first of which will be against the combined stars of the Liga MX Femenil this August 23 at 4:30 p.m. peninsular time.
In the second match they will face Club América Femenil at the Ciudad de los Deportes stadium this Sunday, August 24 at 8:00 p.m. in Catalonia.
Alexia, for now, has a contract with Barça until the end of the 25/26 season, after the renewal agreed last year. For now, her renewal is not clear, but the best footballer on the planet in 2021 and 2022 is confident of continuing to be important for Pere Romeu's team.
Alexia's continuity at Barça ¿at risk?
However, her departure could be near if the renewal option is not validated before the end of 2025. Alexia has a market value of 1.20 million euros, so her continuity will depend, to a large extent, on how quickly she manages to finalize a contract extension with Barcelona.
The truth is that the two-time Ballon d'Or winner is very happy at Barça and, for the moment, is focused on fulfilling the objectives set by the club this season. The culés, again, will go for the treble, seeking to regain the center of the Women's Champions League.
