PSG, Arsenal, Napoli, Dortmund and Newcastle managed to win at the close of Matchday 2 of the Champions League. Barça suffered their first defeat in a gray day for Spanish clubs
Matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 closed on Wednesday with nine matches in which a pair of away wins and three draws were recorded. One of the two teams that won away from home was Paris Saint-Germain, at Montjuïc against FC Barcelona (1-2).
Luis Enrique's team took the best part in the great match of the day thanks to goals from Senny Mayulu and Gonçalo Ramos, the latter in the 90th minute. Barça took the lead in the first half with a goal from Ferran Torres, but went from more to less in a match where they were harmed by the refereeing of Michael Oliver and the VAR.

Newcastle, Dortmund and Arsenal win with authority

The other team that managed to win as a visitor on Wednesday was Newcastle. Eddie Howe's team recovered from the defeat in their debut against Barça (1-2) with a thrashing in Belgium against Union Saint-Gilloise (0-4). Nick Woltemade, Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon (double) scored the goals for the 'Magpies'.
Another team that prevailed in an overwhelming way was Borussia Dortmund. The Germans crushed Athletic Club (4-1) at home with goals from Svensson, Chukwuemeka, Guirassy and Brandt. Gorka Guruzeta brought the Basques closer in the second half, but Ernesto Valverde's team collapsed in the final stretch, conceding a pair of goals in the 82nd minute and in added time.
Less bulky, but equally effective, were the victories of Arsenal and Napoli. Both did their homework at home against Olympiacos (2-0) and Sporting CP (2-1), respectively. The same was done by the revelation of the Champions League so far, Qarabag, with a victory against Copenhagen (2-0), their second in a row.

Villarreal, Monaco and Leverkusen also failed to win at home
Like Barcelona and Union St-Gilloise, Villarreal, Monaco and Leverkusen also failed to take advantage of their home advantage on matchday 2, although they at least ended up rescuing a point. The 'Yellow Submarine' drew against Juventus (2-2) in a match that they started winning with a goal from Mikautadze in the 19th minute.
However, Juve came back in the second half with goals from Gatti and Conceição. Renato Veiga, in the 90th minute, avoided the second defeat for Marcelino's team. Another team that let the victory slip away at the last minute was Manchester City in their visit to Monaco (2-2).
Erling Haaland scored a double before the break, but Taze and Dier, the latter from a penalty in the 90th minute, prevented the defeat for the team from the Principality. Leverkusen, on the other hand, drew against PSV Eindhoven (1-1). Kofane put the Germans ahead in the 65th minute, but Saibari equalized the actions in the 72nd minute. The Champions League will return on Tuesday, October 21, with MD3 of the league phase.
