Matchday 3 of the Champions League closed on Wednesday with better luck for the Spanish teams. Real Madrid did their homework against Juventus and kept pace with the leaders. Athletic finally managed to add 3 points against Qarabag
The UEFA Champions League 2025/26 completed its third matchday on Wednesday. Liverpool, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich made a statement with big wins against Eintracht Frankfurt (1-5), Ajax (5-1), and Brugge (4-0), respectively. The Bavarians are one of five clubs with a perfect record (9 points) after the first three matches and crushed the team that will be FC Barcelona's next opponent.
Vincent Kompany's team opened the scoring in the 5th minute with a goal from Lennart Karl. Afterwards, Harry Kane and Luis Díaz settled the match with goals in the 14th and 34th minutes. It seemed that the Belgians would concede a much bigger beating, but the fourth only came in the 79th minute through Nicolas Jackson. In MD4, Brugge will host Barça in 24th place with just 3 points.
The 'culés', thanks to the thrashing against Olympiacos (6-1) now occupy 9th place with 6 points. Chelsea also added their second victory, crushing an Ajax that is now at the bottom of the table. Former 'culé' Marc Guiu opened the scoring in the 18th minute, just after Taylor's expulsion that started the Dutch debacle. Before the break, the 'blues' were winning 4-1.

Liverpool Breaks Their Bad Streak, Real Madrid Keeps Perfect Pace

Liverpool, meanwhile, came back from Kristensen's opening goal in the 26th minute to break their streak of 4 straight defeats in Frankfurt. The German team suffered their second consecutive 'manita' in the tournament, curiously by the same scoreline as they fell against Atlético the previous matchday and with which they had started by defeating Galatasaray in J1.
The Turks, in fact, have recovered with a couple of consecutive victories, the second against Bodo/Glimt (3-1). Real Madrid's victory against Juventus (1-0) was tighter. A goal from Jude Bellingham was enough for the Whites to maintain their perfect record in the group stage with their third consecutive victory. In J4, Xabi Alonso's team visits Liverpool.
Another team that reacted on Wednesday was Athletic. After two defeats, Ernesto Valverde's team came from behind to defeat Qarabag at San Mamés with a double from Gorka Guruzeta and another goal from Robert Navarro.
Sporting CP also defeated Marseille at home (2-1), while Monaco and Atalanta did not pass the goalless draw against Tottenham and Slavia Prague, respectively. The Champions League returns on Tuesday, November 4 and Wednesday, November 5 with the fourth day of the league phase.
